Horrible speakers - embarrasing

While I like a lot about my 98 GLE, the sound system is a total joke, a POS. It actually has an aftmkt HU, (research tells me it's a Kenwood KDC-152) which has decent reviews.

But the sound coming out of the speakers are absolutely disgusting, grainy, distorted, and passenger door rattles and buzzes badly.

Considering I paid less than $1000 for the car, I can't complain a lot I guess. But I wonder if installing new aftmkt front speakers will help much?

I would not be surprised at all if the speakers were blown out. They could be the originals.

New speakers all around will make a world of difference if they're the stock speakers.

I'm sorry to be a smart ***.... but why wouldn't new speakers help? Even cheap aftermarket ones will sound much better. I have cheap Sony speakers in the front and cheap Pioneers in the back. I blast the hell out of music as loud as possible constantly and it sounds good to me.

My favorite inexpensive speakers are made by Concept. I don't know if they make them anymore though.

Hey guys, i tested it out some more and i'm pretty sure the door speakers are blown.

Gonna buy me some JL Audio speakers. TR650 CXi 6.5" - i've tried some cheap aftmkt speakers before in other cars and was really disappointed b/c they had zero bass and sounded worse than POS OEM speakers.

Hopefully these are better

sometimes the tinsel leads become frayed preventing good signal. if you take a 9v battery and put it to the speaker that will tell you if it's the tinsel leads. Thought my original re xxx 6.5 was blown, and the tinsel lead was pretty bad so I replaced it, works great now!

there you go, that's what i got. now you need to run a 5 channel amp and a sub to pump those bad boys up.i got an alpine 600 watt 5 channel amp with a ps2 rockford fosgate 12 inch sub. i put the same speakers in the rear too, love it with the pioneer touch screen and dvd.
