KYB AGX settings

Hi everyone.

I installed KYB AGX and H&R springs just before christmas. I have been playing with the settings on the AGX since then and I have found that the only setting that makes the car feel "tight" are 4 and 8 (full hard). Any intermediate settings (2 and 4 for example) feel way looser than i thought they would.

This would be ok if the ride on broken pavement wasn't so harsh at full hard setting.

Has anyone else observed this? Are you happy with your AGX's at the intermediate settings?

btw, this is on a 99 se with the stock 16 inch rims and bridgestone potenza re 950s, stillen RSB, and courtesy FSTB.

Thanks for your input

Chill man having them at full hard settings for street use is crazy, mine were installed a couple of days ago and I've kept them on 2 front and 4 rear since, haven't really played around with the settings yet. I think the ride is pretty firm with good control/grip, kind of harsh over bumps but nothing big. I have stock SE springs by the way, you're talking about having FULL hard settings WITH lowering springs, if you like your guts and the rest of the things you got inside your body, and want to KEEP them inside your body, I wouldn't go that far with the settings.

I originally used the stock 2/4 settings, but have now switched to 1/2. Yes, very soft settings, but I find handling hasn't changed at all. Comfortable ride, great handling.

Turn the rear down

I've found out that just by turning the rear down makes the car ride much smoother. If you have no load in the back, passengers or tons of audio equipment use same setting front and rear. I use 2 all the way around. Great handling, yet smooth and comfy ride! Try it out for a week and see how you like it. Maybe with H&R's you'll need a bit more control, say 3 all the way around.

i have 1/4 on my car but i have the apex springs. i have never gone over 2/5. it all depends on your wheels and springs. h&r springs will need a higher setting because they give you a soft ride and they don't drop the car as much.

i have kyb agx and b+g springs. i ran with 2 and 4 and the ride started feeling too hard esp. in the rear. njmaxseltd recommended to me to dial in 2 and 2 and all i can say is softer ride with no loss in handling.

with the h&r springs, i would probably say 2 and 2 at first but if it's too soft then 2 and 3.

good luck.

i have actually been running at full hard (4 and 8) for a few days now...our NC roads aren't that bad, but they're not perfect either...but i find it quite acceptable considering the level of handling i have at these settings...

i wonder if most people find the hard settings unacceptable because they are running 17 or 18 inch rims with those 40 series profiles...

i have the stock 16s. new rims were my next upgrade, now i wonder what the optimal setup is...16s with hard settings, or 17/18s with moderate settings (assuming that larger wheel size is why people backed off their settings)...

ideas?

2 and 4 yesterday, 1 and 1 today, tomarrow . I did not notice any rear difference from 2/4 too 1/1.

What to set?

If I'm running 18X8.5 rims with sprint springs, (2" lower) what setting would u recommend for ultimate handling/smoothness? Thanks.

The first post in this thread is totally what i was looking for. This guy describes how going back down to 15s and running harder settings gave him "bmw like" handline. interesting.

if you've ever driven a bmw, regardless of which model, the handling experience is all varying degrees of the same thing. bmw's in general have extremely controlled handling characteristics (very little roll, fairly neutral) and excellent ride quality (which gives a high level of handling even on bad roads).

most "tuned" jap cars like our maximas with 17's,struts,springs etc. can succeed in generating skidpad numbers and perform extremely well on smooth roads have relatively poor ride quality and get "lifted" all over the place on rough roads.

the premise to the previous post is that sticking with 15s or 16s gives the suspension more dampening, allows the struts to work at stiffer settings, resulting in a highly controlled handling characteristic with good ride quality (like a bmw).

that said, obviously a fwd max with "flexy" nissan body will never handle as well as a rwd bmw with carved from stone german body...just using bmw as a benchmark

yea w/my lil 15 inch wheels, I leave the settings at 4/8 all the time, its the only way that the suspension really feels stiff.

GLE springs w/ AGX and 15" rim

How do you like your setup:
15" rim + GLE springs + AGX?
I have a GLE too. Have a RSB car still doesn't corner too well. Don't like to lower the car. Should I consider SE springs and AGX or GLE sprins are fine or better. Is 4/8 setting harsh? Have body roll when corning?
Your experience is greatly appreciated.
