Please read - throttle stuck open my fault! (Pic)

[IMG][/IMG]

A potentially very dangerous situation occurred today I’d like to make everyone aware of. Last night I installed my new stocker intake pipe (the OEM split) I put the hose clamp adjuster on the opposite side of the one in the pic. The results was while pulling out of my neighborhood this morning and given it a decent amount of gas it hung open. This is my wife’s car and thankfully I was the first to drive it, I used the brakes to overpower the engine (barely) pulled off to the side of the road and killed it. This was obviously easy to fix but the potential danger was very serious. Full car, wife and two kids on our way to breakfast. Just thought I should share as I have received lots of good info here over the years.

Isn't there a hole in the clamp that fits over a nipple on the accordion tube?

I did the same thing when I cleaned my throttle body. I put the clamp adjuster on the throttle side and it stuck on the test drive. Nice to know I'm not the only genius to have done something like this.

Others have done this too.

To really make this thread more effective, you should take a pic with the clamp installed incorrectly and show the throttle cable mechanism stuck on it.

I guess I'm confused how it got stuck when everything throttle related is on the other side.

If your throttle ever gets stuck, put the car in neutral and turn the car off. Your brakes will still work effectively the first time you use them with the car turned off.

Had the same thing happen to me last year, luckily I was on a fairly empty street and shut the car off and slowly turned the wheel and pulled the ebrake.

That might explain how I'm occasionally idling at 40 mph
