bouncy coilovers?

Hey guys so please don't flame, but I need help with my k sports, they are my first set of coilovers. I have installed them a little while back and the rears are incredibly bouncy, I have adjusted the dampening all the way as tight, and as loose as it can go, but still crazy bouncy over every bump. Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice for a coilover noob would be appreciated, and again please no flaming I really need the help

Make sure there's zero preload back there. Mine aren't bouncy even set to full stiff.

I bought them used from a member here named mroth, iirc he said there was 10000 miles on them. And I've used the hex keys he supplied and turned them all the way clockwise till they stop, and still mega bounce

Are you suggesting to go all the way counter clockwise?

Just one question though about those rings, I don't have a spanner wrench, would channel locks be okay to use without damaging anything?

I think I found the problem. If the suspension bounces then the dampers are shot or in this case need to be rebuilt.

There's always a reason people sell used stuff.

How much does it generally cost to rebuild? And what kinds of shop would do it, or is that something I can do myself? I'll try the preload first and see if that's the problem, if it keeps bouncing after that I'll look into rebuild

If you have the time take the rear coilovers out of the car. Loosen up the two top collars to take all the tension off the springs and move both of them all the way down. Test the shocks by hand, that will tell you if they need a rebuild.

Clockwise = more stiff. Counter clockwise = softer. If you've got some bounciness, turn them counterclockwise until you cant anymore. Then they'd be set to full soft.

Not necessarily true. Depending on how you set the coilovers, they can definitely become bouncy. It would also be pretty obvious if they were blown.

I remember MROTH was running a super flush set up with those 6th gen Nismos. He might have added some preload for extra stiffness.

Cool, thank you Chris, on Friday I will give it a look over, I have them set full stiffness with the hex key, I'll turn them down all the way tomorrow and Check that out. Friday I will check the pre load and see how that is,I just put them on my car however mroth had them set up since I didn't know how to adjust anything lol but I've learned a bit from this thread now so I can play with them :-)

Okay I finally got around to my coilovers, I set the preload to 0 in the rear, the fruits feel fine so I didn't adjust them. But 0 in the rear, full stiff dampening with the ****, it's better but still a little more bouncy than I would like though. I read on another site that adding more preload than I had could be better. Any thoughts?

someone said about those being used on a hella flushed 6th gen. He most likely blew them up with the stock springs and switch to stiffer ones( possibly)
that will cause less travel and more resistance on compression.tie down as there reffered to.
the preload will only make them even more stiff.
your basically compressing the coilover lets say an inch with no weight on them so when he dropped his the wheel wouldnt bottom out.

Okay I turned it down to about 3/4 stiffness and it made a world of difference :-)
