Overdrive question
So I bought a 97 gle and I didn't think to check before I bought because the car was in perfect condition along wit every single receipt the car ever had since it road off the showroom.. So I felt comfortable purchasing.. Today I was on the highway and decide to push the overdrive to really feel her .. But nothing happened.. The usual surge of power didn't occur and niether did the o/d light turn on or off when I was pushing the button..???
What could it be? And how can I fix or is it worth fixing?

I was compelled to try the OD button the other day for the very first time after hearing a friend of mine reminisce about his old 99 max, funny thing is this is my third 4th gen and i NEVER thought about pushing the button, never done it!
I pushed it and she revved high! it was fun for sure but i noticed it ate gas like crazy, i mean like a gallon and half in no time, wasn't expecting that, lol
Anyhow, that's one kickass button though

The overdrive is ON by default and the light in the dash is off. If the transmission is in overdrive, the engine rpms will be about 2,500 at 60 mph. When you are driving along and turn the overdrive off, the engine rpms will increase and a yellow light in the instrument cluster will light up.
If the overdrive isn't working, there are multiple possibilities. The switch in the shift lever, the wires going to it, the transmission control module (TCM) or a solenoid in the transmission.
Get the service manual and start checking. See section AT, Automatic Transaxle.
