Car starts slow all of a sudden/Strut/break question

Hello all. My 4th gen has been running pretty normal, however as of lately, she has been slow to start. By that I mean when I turn the key to on, it takes about 1 second longer to start than normal. I just got a tune up a few months ago and the Engine light is on. Anybody know what could be going on?

Strut Question: I need new struts and tires. I would also like to lower my car to slightly get rid of the 4x4 look. What exactly do I need to get this look? What are good struts? I would prefer to buy them and install myself instead of pay a shop to do it.
Thanks.

Check what the code is for, thats a start. Youll need springs if you want to lower and struts to go with them.

Read the stickies man, your questions get asked like once a week and the answer is always the same. The stickies hold pretty much all the info you'll ever need.

And if by some chance that fails use the search bar, practically every problem ever has been discussed on this website in the last 13 years.

Pull the code; check for air, fuel, spark; and go from there. Does all it do is "chug"? any clunks, ticks, or pings when you try to start it? any smoke when you try and start it? any lights on other than CEL?

We need a little more info than "it makes this chug chug sound when i try and start it"

I just went out to try again and its not making a chug choke sound aanymore. All I hear is a click and nothing. I am having it towed in 25 minutes. I will ask if I could get the battery charged and hopefully that works until i can take it to a repair shop and get the code checked.

Based on your initial post I'm assuming your slow start has developed somewhat slowly over some time or did it develop pretty much without indication?

Is the SES the only indicator that's illuminated?

I wouldnt necessarily say it was a slow development...I noticed it starting about a week ago. Usually id pput the key in and turn it...the car would turn on immediately. Over the past week I noticed the startup would be about a second slower than usual.

Check or have your alternator checked as well.

thanks for the responses all. turned out to be a bad starter. Cost 300 bucks to replace.

The engine light code was for a bad oxygen sensor. Cost 150 more bucks to replace. Im already too broke to pay for that ****.
