hey man, i was going to get the hood of my max done with carbon fibre overlay, vinyl. my only problem is they say you can't take it through the car wash and no high pressure hoses, so how durable is this stuff?? i don't want to plastidip the hood, cause i like shine over matt look but they said it can be made to look shiny. what's the best way to do any cf to the car, inside dash, outside, etc. they're quoting me $250.00 for the hood and 65.00 for the side mirrors, have'nt gotten a price for the dash yet. anyone else chime in too. i went to the showroom, pretty cool stuff in there, link....http://www.gowith360.com/

real carbon fiber looks hella nice, but you gotta pay its price, the vinyl is what u get is what u paid for. but each to its own.

It's pretty durable stuff, as long as you buy quality wrap like 3M etc. Although 3M claims it can take the beating of UV rays, rain etc, my personal feeling is that wrapped cars are those that are somewhat babied, kept in the garage, and most definitely hand washed and pampered. If you're a machine car wash kind of guy, then CF wrap is definitely not for you. Shoot, I wouldn't even recommend taking your car to a car wash with just straight paint...those car wash machines are just plain bad news and can mess up your paint quit easily.

As for shine, it will have some shine, but nothing like paint shine. If you can afford it, I'd go real CF on the outside, and wrap the interior parts....and still still away from machine car washes.

Before you take the plunge, ask them what their warranty is on fading, peeling, bubbling etc. And make sure it's in writing before you authorize the work and pay.

 

it's one year on peeling, bubbling, etc. and i told the guy if he want's my business to give me a solid quote, not a guesstimate. i was quoted 1 price yesterday and got another today so i'm thinkin i'll let them do the interior and keep the outside paint for now. don't think i want my shiny max messed up, allthough i might dip the hood, might.

 

Soooo... are you a machine car wash kind of guy?

Are you definitely going to wrap the interior, or just a maybe? If you do, high res pics are a must.

 

Just take the hood off and drive around without the weight for an evening and you will start to crave a real CF hood.

 

well, today i cleaned the headliner and the mats and they look awesome, so all by hand and powerwasher/u wash on the body. can you buy the center dash pieces already wrapped?? i can't do this myself and i cant afford to pay this shop to do it for me. would love to have all real carbon fiber but pricey as hell.

 

Thought of hydro dipping?
That's my plan for the entire center dash section and maybe the vents and window switches.


I don't think that will be cheap though either.
I do think it will look better and last longer than a wrap.

 

I think hydro-dipped parts look horrible and cheap. The pattern reminds of the faux cf crap you find on Ebay. A good quality wrap looks much better IMO.

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess it looks ok, but to me, it clearly doesn't have the authentic look of CF.

If you wrapped in 3m carbon fiber vinyl would u use a 3m adhesive promoter under it? 3m tends to lose tacky ness in the heat!

I've noticed people seem to do hydro dipping on their intake manifolds and other engine bay components. Does anyone know how if it holds up better than wrap being hydo dip seems to be more heat resistant?

 

Without doing the research, hydro dipping in the engine bay compared to 3M wrap does seem like the logical choice.

 

i just did my cattback, 2 02 sensors and an alignment this week, about 375 for everything. i'm so broke i can't afford to pay attention. i will tell you this though, cars running almost perfect if you throw in the replacement trans, brakes, 2 new tires and 3,200.00 in body work and paint.
