mechanic said my transmission was done

Mechanic said my transmission is done, this is the same person that told me it was done a few months ago when it started slipping, and going in limp mode, I later found out it was a bad revolution sensor, this guy as been a Mechanic for years, and is a family member, SO I called him up, and explain what was going on, I told him that when the car is cold the transmission doesn't want to shift from 1st gear to 2nd in my automatic unless you reach high rpms, but once the car warms up after 10-15 mins of driving then it would shift normal, and at the right rpm for my current speed, he said it was looking pressure, and needed to be rebuilt or replaced with a used one, I'm saying he could be wrong again, but I Just want to make sure, I've change the fluid, it's not leaking, and I've treated it with transmission treatment, but nothing works, SO my question is, do I need to replace or there's a part that needs replacing?

How many miles do you have on your Max? Where are you located in case we have members in your area who can recommend a place to get a 2nd opinion?

I say pull codes first, and check fuse. There is a procedure to check tranny codes. I Did it once on my maxima and it told me the revolution sensor was bad.

same

same exact thing happening to my 97 max se 183k miles on it. just bought it used from a guy for 600 bucks. car runs fine but transmission slips when revving from 1st gear to 2nd gear car jerks hard. if i am accelerating from a stop it jerks harder. if i am accelerating from a slow speed say 10mph it jerks but not as hard when going from 1st to 2nd. thinking the tranny is going might have to get it replaced with a used one but not sure.

I Only have one code for EGR valve, and I've check the transmission codes before when my revolution sensor was bad, but at that time the O/D light was flashing so I was much closer to solving the problem than I am now, but I'll check the tranny for whatever it may be

someone correct me if im wrong but if you have an automatic tranny, I would replace the drop resistor near the battery and air box if its shifting hard.

Could be, the drop resistor mod ( by passing the resistor via a switch would make the tranny shift at full line pressure) is good only at WOT for boosted applications if I'm not mistaken. Replace it and see if that fixes the issue, cheap fix and DIY.

If you're in Queens I would go to All Out Motor in Hempstead, these guys at this shop are Maxima Gurus. I have my 3.5 engine there now preparing for a 3.5 swap in my 97. You'll be in good hands there.

Pull the valve body and check the solenoids. Bet ya got a lazy one. If it shifts once it's warm, then the clutch pack is ok which leads to nothing more then a small electronic issue.

Measure (ohm) the shift solenoids, make sure they are within spec.

To measure the resistance of shift solenoids A and B you'll have to disconnect connector F42. You'll find the connector location reading this manual

http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB98-043.pdf

Disconnect F42 and measure the resistance for both solenoids. The resistance range for both solenoids is 10 to 20 ohms.

Solenoid A: Pin 2 and GND

Solenoid B: Pin 1 and GND

If they do not measure within that range then replace the shift solenoids using this thread

my 99 maxima also slams from 1st to 2nd gear, just ordered a new drop resistor. Hopefully that will help some of my issue...I will report back once it is received and installed.
