So far the paint still shines but I notice rust creeping on the rear quarter panel again, passenger side. These people are worst trying to get the car in to fix their mistakes. If I had to it all over again I would have thought twice and saved up for a better shop to do the job.

Rust on those areas is inevitable. Most shops will just give you a simple paint job unless you wanna pay the price to get into the body work and romove existing rust. Something like that could have been either behind the wheel well or just a pin point spot of rust and rust grows/spreads very quickly if not removed or treated properly. Even when treated it only slows down the inevitable.

Rust is like cancer, the best way to get rid of it is to cut it out. One little piece left and it will come back. There is no way to fix the rust spot without getting rid of all the rust, which means grinding down to bare metal and re-painting.
Depending on how much longer you want to keep the car, you can try to cover it up. Basically, sand it down good, removing as little non-bubbled paint as you can. Put some POR15 over the metal. Cover with something like a fender flare or rubber trim. It's not the permenant fix and won't look as good, but even with that part ground down and the paint blended with the rest of the car, it will start to add up.

Funny think i use to live down the road from a macao and i would never in my life have ever thought or wanted to go to macao. I have seen all types of people come back for problems. They get you with the $299 special.

Not really Maaco's fault - though they should've told you the rust was going to come back. I had a Maaco equivalent job back in January - still looks shiny - I did pay for top of the line one though. I think it was $1199. The 1st 4 are single layer they told me - sounded like a total waste of money IMO.

the ONLY way to paint a car, ( and these cheap a$$e$ know this ) is to clear after you put a base down. unless you want a rattle can paint job that rusts through after a few months or so.and you HAVE to cut out rust unless you get lucky when grinding it down cause that por **** does'nt work unless you get ALL the rust, period. been there, done that.

Good marketing, but as always, poor workmanship quality. I can't even imagine what their paint inventory looks like, but I guess that's how they make their money.

The middle one you went with is a single stage paint which isnt always a bad thing though base clear does look better as far as shine and durability and from what i see they didn't do a terrible repair on the rear fender (dog leg) an english wheel to mold the piece they fitted would have helped but none the less it appears they didn't treat all the little tack welds before painting it and welds are generally the first thing to start rusting. My guess is that's what's happening there and as for the question you first asked me i believe the above posts pretty much sumed it up. All the rust needs to be removed which in your case can probably be just grinded out being it's from a fairly fresh repair and is probably just surface rust but must not be left for long. Try taking it back to maaco being they tack welded the new metal in the dog leg and did the repair and ask the what they used to prep or treat the metal before painting it. They should honour some type of warranty on that. Now that i look back on your previous pic. what do you wanna bet the bottom of the dog leg and rocker panel on that side are the next to start. If you have a welder try tack welding a scrap piece of metal and leave it in the garage or basement a month or 2 and you will see the rust start forming. The bare metal should have been treated or something. Clear coat on bare metal works probably as well as por15. I'd definately take it back to them and hopefully they honour a warranty and don't give you any hard time with their excuses.

Thanks for the replies guys. Have been busy with work. Yes the manager had to agreed to fix the rust and hood, but everytime I swing by he has excuse to why he can't take the car in. Supposedly full he says. Now I'm aware of another Maaco in my area but if it's franchise can another Maaco warranty the work as well?

Exactly my thoughts guys! Crazy thing is my friend had an accident in his RAV4 and he took his car to this same Maaco! I warned the guy and now they had his car for several weeks going on nearly 2 months. Whole place is fishy, I feel like filing a BBB complaint at this point. They have a total of 12 complaints and a F rating.
