Cat Back Question

is the perfomance gain from installing a cat back system worth the $$?

from what i read in the previous posts it doesn't seem to do much except kill low end torque.

or am i wrong?

try searching first.

to some it up, the loss of low end torque is worth the gain in mid and high end.

How much slower does it really make you off the line anyhow? Is it noticeable?

yeah it lags noticeably. and then wham, after 3.5k rpm you feel the puullll like crazy, and once you are in second, rpms stay high enough to keep pulling. So they only real loss is about 0-20mph.

Y pipe does the same thing I think. You lose low end cos of lack of backpressure, you gain mid to high end cos the flow is better.

I felt a slight difference on my Y pipe on the low end.

The whole deal just makes you want to run at higher rpms!

Imagine this.. having all of the low end losing mods. Intake, ypipe, 3" piping, RT Cat, and a dual exhaust! Your car will be so slow off the line and then it'll finallt catch on and zip through the gears. 60ft times would suck, but 1/4 mi will be decent, and top end power would be nice.

You'd think they'd make a progressive valve controlled Y pipe tthat closes when pressure is low, restricting flow on the low end. As the pressure builds up, it would open up to breathe better ... why hasn't anyone done that yet? Variable intake runners are based on a similar principle ...why not exhaust?

as long as the piping is between 2.25-2.5 inches, you really shouldnt have to worry about losing power..... anything bigger or smaller will screw you up
