transmission problem?

I just noticed today when I got in my car and shifted out of park to R that there was a scraching(metal aginst meatl) sound comeing from I am gussing the transmission. After shifiting through the gears somemore while at a stop I also noticed the hard shifts were strong enough to pull the car a few degres to the left and right. Got my girl to run through the gears while I looked under the hood and I noticed the engine moveing from left to right very harshly! Also the RPM is pulled down to about 2 0r 3 hundred during shifts. I drive an auto. I also put in a transmission cooler about a month ago.It dose not shift as hard when the car is warmed up but scraching noise is still there. Its only 60 out side so I don't think the cooler is keeping it to cold.

IS MY TRANSMISSION DIEING? OR DO I JUST NEED TO REPLACE SOME MOUNT BUSHINGS?

If your engine is shifting back and forth excessively, I would check the motor mounts or the transmission mounting points.

Is there a proper way to check? I know there are 4 on the engine but were do I look for the transmission?

If you've got a warranty, convince them you need a new tranny and get a 5 spd.

Eric L. just gave you one. You really need to stop the engine from moving like that when you engage the transmission. Take it to a mechanic or get a manual (Haynes, FSM or whatever) and look at the mounting points. Make sure they are secure.

Hehe....sorry, thought you had your answer above! Check the mounts. Engine movement like that is not right. I have not heard of this problem before though! Has the tranny or engine been out before?

Thanks thats what I will do. But do you think there is any thing wrong with the transmission it self.
