good price for paint job?

I was quoted $1600 for a full paint job. It will be the same color as it is now...superblack. Good price or not? I'm not sure should I spend the money on a new paint job or new rims.

It's a good price if they do a good job. It's crap price if they crappy job.

You MUST evaulate the shop's work. There is NO way anyone can really tell you if that price will get a decent job or not.

Just one of those things

better not be a Macco paint job... $1600 seems a lil low for a full body paint, but if you think it feels right go for it!!

Re: good price for paint job?

$1600 is on the low side for just a repaint, and not a color change. Most places around here are about $2K for that. Make sure they don't cut corners like taping off your lights instead of removing them, and stuff like that. It's the little stuff that gets you. Just about anybody can spray a decent paint job. But if they don't do the prep work right, it will look terrible. For $1600, I'd worry about overspray and orange peel. Look at the other cars coming out of this shop. And see if anyone you know recommends it.

This isn't my first time at this shop. I had my Stillen front lip painted here, they charged me $70 to paint it IIRC. The paint held up pretty well. My sister had a spoiler for her Accord painted here also, holding pretty nicely as well. Of course, those are minor compared to a full paint job. The low price is what make me a bit cautious about this. I think I will pass on this now. My paint isn't that bad, just some scratches and nicks around. And not like I'm into car show. Thanks for the advice anyway guys.

That's good advice from Shadow! $1600 is really low! $2.5-4K is probably what many charge for a decent paint job. I might consider those type of jobs (<$1.6k)if I were trying to get rid of my car and didn't care how long it lasted. Prep work on new panels is easier than on painted parts. To do a GOOD job you probably need your car beaded...(some might consider this overkill)

Look at cars IN the shop as well as coming out if you really want to do this. See how those are prepped (taped or parts removed?)

My car has a number of dings and scratches (from parking lots) I will probably get mine done next year.

Id say your better off at a shop charging you 2k and up. But always check out the shop and see the jobs that they have done.
