What's the 0-60 in your stock automatic 4th gen
I clocked about 8.5 in mine. Isn't it supposed to be mid 7s? I even raced my friends 2014 frs and he stayed head to head with me In a 0-60 race. The frs is also supposed to be in mid 7s as an automatic. His car weighs less, has 10 more hp and is a 6 speed. 17k miles vs my 203k miles. Am I counting wrong? I've seen some 4th gens do mid 7s on high miles. 3 races we had and same results.

The maxima auto according to the car and drivers and edmund say the 0-60 is 6-7 seconds. The manual maximas run in 6.0-6.6 Depending on the driver. I believe with a very good driver you can pull in a high 5`s to a low 6`s. In your video you have a full tank with a lots of weight in the back that will slow you down, the overdrive won`t do much.

Have you been maintaining it? I see that it has 203k. Plugs, air filter, knock sensor, etc changed recently? Cleaned TB / MAF? Basic maintenance items can influence your acceleration.

This is a must to get your max running properly. The next thing is your car is a gxe it's gonna be governed. The 0-60 on your car is way under the rankings. The weight in your trunk is a slow down and you will lose about 1tenth of a second or a second off 0-60. The facts of power to weight ratio.
|
Nice job on the maintenance. NGK plugs are OEM / recommended, but does it run / idle well otherwise? Also, If you live in an area where the elevation is higher, that can influence your times as well. Exactly how much of an impact? I'm not so sure...

Please can someone tell me If the GLE is supposed to do this or something wrong with car? I mean even the frs is supposed to do 7.8s and it proved it didn't.

Your car is a fully loaded GLE. Not only the weight in the trunk, but added luxury features, like moonroof, also add weight to the car. You're at an elevation of 1152 feet above sea level. Normally aspirated cars lose power the higher they go. All these factors hurt your 0-60 time, so 8.5 seconds sounds about right. Also, if you had a limiter, it would only take effect beyond 100 mph. For example base Maxima GXEs are limited to 117. Any acceleration numbers below that speed are unaffected. |
Rims size?....get 15s. Seafoam helps also...put it in gas, oil, intake hose from booster.
Get manuel seats, Gle's are the heaviest of them all due to all the goodies, sunroof, leather power, etc. Remove spare and leave little gas...each gallon is 6 pounds.....you can shed mad weight with out looking like A drag car lol. |

Those C&D times are also for probably at least around sea level. What is your altitude? DA plays a big role as we all know.
The fastest IO recorded my 4AT 03 went to 60 was about 6.2 seconds I/H/E stock rear muffler. And this was using the VSS on close to stock sized tires, so it’s gotta be fairly close legit vs using a stopwatch, etc. At the time of testing I was @ 5600’ above sea level, not sure of the DA but it was a cool night. |

So yes, brand new spark plugs, only 1 coil pack upgraded (idk about the others but they look old and dirty), K&N air filter, stock wheels, cleaned throttle body (might have to do better job), used EBAY MAF (other one went out in January), new master pro knock sensor. I do need pcv valve replaced though.

That is helluva light. Did you weigh it at a weigh station? I wish I had the Nissan brochures on me. The Base GXE 5 speed was the lightest. GLE was the heaviest, but a fully optioned SE would take the cake.

No it said it in edmunds. 3085 for automatics and 3014 for manuals.
A GLE is pretty much an I30, like my car, except mine's a 5-speed:p |

They must have mistaken the base GXE figures then. No way a GLE weighs that little. Put in another way, that makes a fully loaded maxima weigh the same as a 2nd gen Infiniti G20, a significantly smaller car, also fully loaded, but still smaller.

I had my right window down, maybe that's why
|
I'd be more concerned with how my car runs than a 0-60 time.
Don't worry about it too much. |

That still sounds ridiculously light to me, but hey:gotme: http://carbuying.jalopnik.com/here-a...axi-1691274010 |
Torque is what accelerates the car... not horsepower. Horsepower is a byproduct of torque at a certain RPM.
As far as weights go... I ire 1995 GXE 5 speed was the lightest at 2988 lbs. 1999 I30t auto (every available option including vlsd and traction control topped out at 3205 lbs. |
My 97 SE 5spd with power seats, auto climate, sunroof and no spare came in at 3000lbs. I saw that too about the G20 weighing as much the max, but with 140hp. I can't imagine driving a max with 140hp, it wouldn't move!

Maybe Edmunds was right. Tavarish on Jalopnik weighed his 98 GLE converted to 5-spped and got 2860 lbs

Yeah maybe the spare weights around 14 to 30 pounds I think. 3014 is the manual versions weight.
3000 is where I thought it would be. I can't see how loosing a sunroof and power seats takes it down to 2860. That's a big drop. Auto climate and a bose system can't weight that much. That said, I wouldn't lose a sunroof for 50lbs, that's what an 00VI makes up for  I'm 6'8" I need all the headroom I can get. |
I have driven my friends 97 se max holly cow thing feels as fast and as good as mine, the key is maintenance and a good gas with a good healthy maf sensor. His car is bone stock he got it from an olderly with good maintenance record.
|
Mine was 7.7 seconds based on my bone stock 1/4 time. I wonder if anyone has beaten my stock 1/4 time after all of these years.
|
I did this getting on the freeway a few months back...with 2 others in the car and half a tank of gas it took me 8 seconds to get up to freeway speed (60mph). 99SE auto with Cattman Y.

I just saw the vid 0-60 posted by maxima 97 se. I see that the rpm hits only around 5k, its supposed to hit 6.5k. The question here is are you a auto or manual. The shift was either a controlled like manual shift as a manual or the car has issues shifting wise maybe the tranny?

yeah it should hit 6.5k, redo the video, FLOOR that pedal like u mean it lol

My '97 GLE only went to 6000-6200 before shifting at WOT. And I was on it all the way.. :gotme:

I think that your o/d is off that can cause the car not to go all out. If anything check the tranny fluid level I think the torque converter is having problems with converting out at 6.5k. I would try the wot launch again and go from there.
