tires

hey guys, I've got a set of 17's that I'm about to go get tires for, and the guy @ discount tires recommended getting the 50 series...... specifically 215/50/17...... 75 bux apiece..... does anyone use the 50 series tires, or have pics? I just need to get an idea of what they will look like on my car before I put a deposit down for ordering them......

rides rough?

I figured more rubber should give more comfortable ride than low profile 40's or even 45?
Gimme details on how bad the ride is and any prob's I may have....

low profiles give a rougher ride in general......first off......there is less rubber and secondly you gotta fill them up more "tightly" with air than 500+ sidewalled tires

There isn't a whole lot of difference between a 225/50 and a 235/45. The difference is approximately 7.25mm in sidewall height.

that and a very narrow list of tires you can use. When was the last time you've seen any other tire except Z rated in a 45 series? I would like a tire that will last a little while and have some looks. Like you said there is only about 8mm difference in size wich is hardly noticeable and you can run more tires on your rims.

You need a Z rated tire with a low pro tire so that the sidewall is plenty thick to absorb the abuse. Any other rating would be very soft and would increase the chances of blowouts. Most of the good brand tires do have like a 300 treadwear rating. That's better than most non-low pro tires. I've had my Nittos for over 2 years and have over 60k on them and they still perform like champs, with plenty of tread left.

I guess thats why a 50 series is OEM for the 17's on both Infiniti and Nissan cars?

Yup because it's cheaper and I don't believe the OEM 17's come in 17x8" width.

It'd be pretty tough running a 235 on a 17x7" OEM wheel though.

DOh I misread your post. I was told you can run 235's on a x7 rim, but I don't know if he was just trying to sell me 300 tires. My rims are x8 and I do run 235/45 17. Although for better tire life and better winter traction I'm going to the 225/50.

I agree with you on the winter traction part. I don't see much snow here in FL.
