97 Rust ALREADY?

someone I know personally decided to hit my car when it belonged to my dad about two years ago. He said it was an accident, but he dented in the entire front driver's side door and some of the rear drivers side door. I hadnt washed the car in a while (black) and today when it was washed, I noticed that the bottom of the door right in the corner, there is a HUGE amount of bubbling rust under the paint. The largest part is ovular in shape, about 3-4 inches in length, and about 1-1.5 inches in height. Along the bottom of the door the rust continues, about another 6-8 inches, yet in less height (about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in height). The body work was done thru insurance at a local Nissan auto collision shop. Again, it was done about 2 years ago. I called up the guy and he said he wants to see it on Monday...would they cover this under warranty? This is really bad as none of the other doors (still intact from the factory) have this. I believe the panel was replaced on this rusting door, but I am sure that it was repainted and that is why this is happening...but seems like it was a very poor job. what can have them do to remedy this and prolong the starting of rusting more than two years!? thanks...

There's drain holes in the bottom edge of the door that may have been clogged, possibly with body refinishing material or paint.

They probably just put a door skin on it. That's the panel part of the door on the outside. He might not have preped the door properly and sprayed the outside and not bothered with the inside (should do both sides (to be safe). It may be possible that in spraying the door, he plugged up the drain holes in the door that let any water or condensation out, so the door rusted .... especially if it is at the bottom. I am not very familiar with the Max's door but there should be one or two holes for draining water. Look on the passenger door to see. I will also check on mine when I get the chance. At the very least he should unblock those holes if they are blocked.

Sometimes back home when I helped my dad, we would also spray either wax oil or underseal inside instead of paint, this also can help prevent water from rusting the metal.

Damn, you beat me to it! hehe! . Must have been typing at the same time! I'm slow!

As far as anything else? .... not really. The stuff about wax oil or underseal is probably not something that many people bother with. We used to pride ourselves with our work though
