Right now, I'm considering getting a catback system. I currently have a CAI and a Y-pipe. I plan on getting a hi-flow cat as well. My question is, not considering cost, if my goal is to have a loud, but deep sounding exhaust, which is the better combination? The stillen b-pipe and muffler or the greddy catback system... Of course, if there are other combinations which I haven't touched on and may be more appropriate, please feel free to list them. I guess to put it in other terms, less rice, more V-8 mustang. Thanks for the input.

On a sidenote, when I installed the y-pipe, at about the 1000-1500 range when travelling at about 30-40 mph in overdrive, my entire car is at some sort of harmonic tune, an the entire cabin starts vibrating. It really get's annoying after awhile... anyone else have this problem? possibly a rememdy? Thanks.

 

The stillen muffler is going to amplify that drone alot. I have that setup minus the b-pipes and it is loud

 

All of those Greddy, HKS, Stillen, etc.. mufflers have drone --
The Stillen one is from 2000-3000 RPM --
So combined with your existing mods, your car will drone all the way up to 90MPH in overdrive or 60MPH in 3rd.

yep, mine seems to drone the loudest at 2.5k with the muffler only and it seems to be very quiet at all other rpms except 2-3k

when I added the y-pipe, the drone is loud in all lower rpms and its peak is at 1.5k and droans all the way up to about 3-4k where it starts to loose resonation.

 

My Greddy on my 95 starts to droned at 70 mph but when i first got it on my car it didnt do much of a toot but since i kinda broke it in it's got louder (night & day type of deal) i get the roar when i accerate too from stoping then all the way to 40-50 mph then get's quiet till 70 mph but when i find out is if the muffler is very hot like say for example i drive 80 miles (from chicago to michigan it gets pretty loud.. heh oh well i like mine but i wish the sound doesnt cut out and back like that i wish it gives me a stead stream of sound coming out of my exhaust

 

on the other side of this coin, whats a combination (y-pipe, b-pipe, cat, muffler) that gives a growl a little louder than stock, but isnt annoying?

if you want a quiet setup it would probably be best to keep your stock muffler, or get a Y2K one.

i have a PR CAI, Stillen Y-pipe, STillen B-Pipe and Stillen Muffler...and it is definitely deep and loud... mine gets loudest from 1800-2200 rpm.... it has more mustang than rice coffee can sound... that's what i like... i mean it's definitely an import sound but it has a more deep tone... i am not saying the stillen is louder than the greddy... all i am saying is that's what i got and that's the sound i get... i love it... later..

 

I've got a HKS intake, Warpspeed Y-pipe, RT cat, and Stillen B-pipe. I'm running the stock muffler. The sound is beautiful. It has a mild deep throatiness at idle and sounds very european (BMW-M types) at part throttle and WOT. It never drones. At cruise, the whole setup is marginally louder than stock. I painted my muffler flat black and added a very subtle 3" stainless tip. I love the sleeper look of the setup, but most people in here are younger and they want the big tip and stainless muffler look. I use to have the HKS muffler teamed with this setup a few years back and the drone and sound was just too much. It never sounded ricey, but it was way too loud for a 4-door, IMO.

hey bro ... how is the RT cat? that is the only thing i don't have exhaust wise... are the gains worth the $200?

Nope. Get a UDP instead. I noticed real gains with that. I've gained ~1mph in the 1/4 mile with the UDP. Now the trick is just to get some traction.
