Anyone know what this wire is for?

Noob on these forums just a quick backstory I have a 98 maxima 170k miles have had it for going on 3 years now, its been a great car except for the past couple months it stalls while driving, making a turn, and slowing down at a light. Ive been through the threads here have checked MAf, ECTS, Ignition coils, Crankshaft Ref, TPS. I get codes p1320 ignition signal,P1335 crankshaft REF, P0135 O2 sensor. Last thing i checked with a multimeter (specially innova 3320 auto ranging) was the crankshaft pos sensor REF, checked plug for power and continuity, and checked sensor for ohms and it looks good and while i was there i noticed a disconnected wire. Don't have a garage was checking it out on the street and was losing daylight so just took a picture if anyone knows what this wire is for, how to fix its greatly appreciated.. this forum is great i hope to be able to have my maxima running well soon

that wire is for the crankshaft position ref sensor and in the picture is the sensor that has gone bad. Buy an oem nissan sensor if you dont want any issues in the future.

thanks for the reply, I checked the ohms of the crankshaft Ref and it was reading 0.531 ohms.. could the sensor be bad even though its reading that it is working or is that test not reliable

to I just checked my haynes manual and it said the ohms should be 470 to 570. so your sensor seems good. What you should do is clean the sensor and the wire harness becuase it so dirty and it has oil with crc quick dry electronic cleaner. Then see if it fixes the problem.

Oh my bad i didnt see that yellow wire that was disconnected. That wire is for the sensor and that is the reason why your getting that code. The sensor has two wire going to it and it looks like somehow this one got disconnected. What you will have to do is go to picknpull and cut yourself a new harness from that same sensor and reattach the wires. Make sure when you cut the harness off of a new sensor that you dont cut the wires to short as you need the wires to be longer so you can reattach your wire to the new harness. Your sensor is not bad its just that the wire broke off somehow from the harness.

I was pretty sure i check continuity in those wires and i did it again just in case and there are 2 wires there it was hard to see in the first pics but got closeups of that and got a closeup of where that stray wire is coming from

just occurred to me looking at the pictures that i should have opened up the plastic to see if it was cut from there, my first thought was it was cut at the clip but since i seen a wire there i figured it was fine.. and the continuity test is done on the black wire so that wire i guess could still be cut in the plastic wrap

peeled plastic back and that wire is not a cut wire from the crankshaft sensor.. both wires going to crankshaft are intact and still don't know where that disconnected wire goes or what its for

Since it looks like that wire was ripped from the oil switch there might have been some other unseen damage to the harness.

Have not got around to taking it to mechanic yet..... car kept shutting off and my starter needed to be replaced so took care of that and also ignition switch and finally noticed my pcv valve grommet was tore up i didn't notice it until i took it out, got that replaced and a coil failed so went to junkyard got a hanshin coil. seems like its running good so far but gotta see if it lasts and eventually take it to mechanic for that wire. This is a great forum found out how to test so many different things for my shutting off while driving problem.... and hopefully that was the problem why it was shutting off and i can start providing maintenance on a well running maxima
