Strut bar bracket location, WTF is this!?!?!

Ok so I have a 99 Max and i just bought a Front strut bar, I go to install it and see this!?!?! It blocks the bracket. Whats this for? Its welded on, can I just grind this sucker off? My 98 had this but its out of the way, What are my options? Thanks....

That shouldn't be in the way...unless you're putting the mount on backwards...I.e. Pass side and driver side reversed

Take a chisel and mini sledge and have at it, what its for is a mystery but you dont need it. Grinding is also an option.

Lots of people have had success with a hammer and a chisel. It should pop right off.

I forget what it's for, but I believe my 99 5spd has something attached to it. My 99 Auto does not.

While we are looking at that picture, what is the metal sensor that is in the bottom left mounted on the strut tower next to the air box?

I've seen them on automatic 4th gens at the junkyard, but my 99 5spd doesn't have one.

You guys hit it right on the head, literally. I did exactly that and BOOM! I was able to move it out of the way and just keep the bracket to the side just in case I ever need it. Thanks guys

Drop (dropping) resistor for the auto trans. It controls the pressure of the shifts.
