Where is the Air Temp Sensor - DTC 0401
Frustrated and need some assistance please!!
After a lot of searching, reading the Haynes manual and reviewing a **** load of posts, where is the Air Temperature Sensor in '97 GLE. The picture in the haynes manual shows it being in the airbox...but it is not in a '97. My light has been on since I installed my CAI.
I checked connections, made sure MAF sensor is tight and otherwise looked around.
What is the sensor that is found on the Ram air scoop.
I did remove the Ram air scoop as well as the attached resonator.
I do have some type of sensor which splits off the MAF sensor.
Could this sensor be causing this error code?
Any help would be appreciated as this has me frustrated!

Re: Frustrated and need some assistance please!!
Did you disconnect the battery before you installed the CAI? Because if you didn't, the mere act of unplugging the air temp sensor will cause a CEL. Solution is to reset the ECU. I think you are right about it's integration with the MAF. '95-'96s have a separate sensor unit which hooks up to the CAI tubing.
You know, I'm looking at my Haynes Repair Manual in Chapter 6 Page 11 Section 7 which is Intake Air Temperature sensor -check and replacement.
It says;
The Intake Air Temperature sensor (IAT sensor) is a thermistor that changes resistance as temperature changes.
The sensor is install in the intake air duct to sense air temperature.
As temperature increases, sensor resistance decreases and vice versa.
The PCM uses this information to compute the intake temperature and fine tune fuel metering.
A problem in the IAT sensor curcuit will set a trouble code. The fault may be in the circuit wiring or connections or in the sensor itself.
Illustration 7.3a shows a picture of the sensor attached by two screws to the back side of the intake air box where the air filter is located. There are two wires coming off the sensor on the outside of the housing (the side of the intake air box that is closest to the driver's side strut tower) that go about 6 inches to a connector.
The Check is too lengthy to quote here, but it describes how to check the sensor.
I am not aware of how the CAI installation deals with the air intake box or the intake air sensor, but it is definitely there as in the illustration mentioned above on my 1996 Max.
Hope this helps some.

I saw that too....
I did remove the negative terminal prior to installation.
The '96 is set up dofferently than the '97. The sensor for the '96 is located on the exterior of the air box and can be removed. some members here have drilled a hole in which to place the sensor on the '96 models.
The problem I am having is I am not sure of the location of this air temp sensor on the '97. The manual is not real clear.
I did reset my ECU but, the light is coming on immediately.
Does anyone know what the sensor is that is located on the Ram Air scoop (which I removed BTW)
Thanks,
DL

Which hole do you mean......sound like sex ed lol
Sprint:
Which hole would I plug it into?
I checked all over the CAI, but I cannot find a place for the plug to attach similar to how it would attach on the Ram Air Scoop.
Based on Cheston's instructions, I thought it would be a good idea to remove the whole Ram Air attachment. Is this the cause of my problem?
I cannot see a similar place on the CAI for the sensor to plug in.
In the meantime, I did remove the piece which was in the RAM air scoop and attached it to the plug that previously was empty.
I hope that this makes sense as I cannot figure it out!

the hole is inbetween the MAF and the Throttle body.. on the underside of the CAI.. i think its exactly between the three metal pipes that stick out of the CAI for hoses

I will check it out today when I finish working. Is it under the rubber sleeve?

for example my CAI didn't have drilled screw holes for the MAF.. i had to use nuts and bolts.. and my CAI didn't come with the rubber sleve for the hole.. they have made great great improvemnts..
No more orange light!!!!
I got my air temp sensor plugged in properly to my CAAI now and no more light.
While I was at it I cleaned my throttle body.
Killed two birds with one stone. She runs nice now!
Thanks Sprint for your time with this one!
