0302 code comes and goes
0302 code comes and goes
Got a 0302 code a few months back checked a few things and reset the ecm, no code came back until yesterday was out driving and check light comes on pulled 0302 and 0304. Not sure where to start on the 0302 I know for a fact the the egr tube was not clogged when I did the valve cover gaskets about 1600 miles ago. Car has 98200+ miles on it.
Did the ohm check on the knock sensor and couldnt get a reading at all just open circuit (1). Assuming I checked the right connector but its the only wires that come out from under the intake in between the cylinder heads to a connector right ro the right hand side of the front valve cover so not sure what the deal is with that looks like a PITA to change the sensor.
thoughts?
thanks

The 304 code for Knock Sensor is most likely a "ghost code" that will follow other codes. I wouldn't worry replacing the KS until the 302 EGR code is resolved. That is if the 304 code doesn't go away on its own.
The knock sensor code often accompanies codes for O2 sensors. When the O2 sensor issues are resolved the KS code will disappear.
I take it the EGR tube and sensor were cleaned when the VC gaskets were replaced?
Have you been running premium fuel?
What year is your 4th gen?
The 99 model uses an electric EGR where earlier models use a vacuum operated type.

Use to run premium because of NOS system hooked up but have not since I can remember.

I had to replace the EGR valves on my 95 and 99 models.
The 95 model 5-speed started throwing a code and I noticed a jumping/throttle bounce on takeoff.
The 99 model 5-speed appeared to have an intermittent vacuum leak that could not find. Finally the 99 model threw an EGR code so I replaced it.
In both 95 and 99 models, a new EGR smoothed out lower RPM engine idle / take off issues.
I purchased a new SMP Intermotor EGR from www.rockauto.com for roughly $72 for the 95 model. I also used the an Intermotor brand EGR on the 99 model from Advance Auto. I try to use SMP/BWD Intermotor (by Federal Mogul) replacement parts when available.
