Gas coming out near the rear canister WTF?

Hey guys I was wondering if someone could help me out because I`m at a loss here. I just finished changing the engine on my 4th gen (another 3.0L) I started it after the swap and I have gas shooting out what looks like a vent which is mounted on the EVAP canister. I can provide photos of the part thats spitting out gas. Its not coming out the fuel lines. WTF? Anyone ever had this kind of problem?

Thanks.

MJ

I forgot to meantion that I have no loss of power for the moment. I did get a lean code from the check engine but Im assuming its cause I have gas shooting out its ***.

yea I had the same issue . never figured it out . it would happen anytime I pumped gas in full blast . I had ppl on here suggest that maybe a hole in the fuel filler neck . eventually it just stopped happening

Raw gas should not be getting to the EVAP canister, only fumes. When the engine is running, engine vacuum is sucking the fumes out of the gas tank and into the intake manifold to be burned in the combustion chamber.

Look at the diagram on page 23 in this link -
http://boredmder.com/FSMs/Nissan/Maxima/1998/EC.pdf

Maybe the vacuum cut valve is bad, allowing raw gas to get into the EVAP canister?

Does this only happen when the gas tank is full? I would think that when the tank level was down, this would not happen.
