So my 4th gen is pretty rusted and when I got out of my car yesterday I noticed what looked like a black pouch hanging by a wire or something and sort of tucked on the inside of the rear bumper on the passenger side. Does anyone know what this thing is and/or what it does?

Usually with the spare under the board, but most likely found a way through the metal somewhere. OUCH!

 

I feel like an idiot - JSutter you are 100% correct. Guess the rust is worse than I thought....

 

LOL I just rewelded all my rear end with sheetmetal.

 

Don't feel bad, mine fell out the same way. I never knew it was there til it fell out at a gas station.

 

I'm glad I live in the south.

 

hell, i can't imagine my max being that badly rusted. i check those rear quarters for rust all the time.

 

Sorry, that's stuff some of us lucky to not get.
