Shoutout to Warpspeed for my custom exhaust solution
While out of town January of 2015 someone cut the catalytic converter out from under my Maxima. My interim repair (which has now gone on longer than planned) involved straight pipe / flex pipe / muffler tape from the auto parts store and ignoring the check engine light.
That worked fine back home in New Orleans with Texas plates. Now that I'm in Texas again the cops want the car inspected and registered. I thought of trying cheaper routes of O2 sensor non-foulers and such but decided to just have it fixed correctly. I ordered an O2 sensor from RockAuto and bought a Magnaflow cat from my local O'Reilly's. I took the parts to Ken's Mufflers (in business for 44 years in this same spot, I learned). The cat is 2.5" while the pipes on both sides are 2" and the O2 sensor is too small for the standard size bung. Wouldn't work.
Enter: Warpspeed Performance
After returning the first cat, I call them up and talk to Dallas. I explain my situation and he comes up with the perfect solution. The factory cat, he says, is 2.5" but has 2" flanges to connect with the rest of the exhaust. Since I have no need for flanges with my hacked exhaust, he fabs a converter adapted to 2" ID inlet and outlet, with a 14mm post-cat O2 bung. We spoke around 5pm on Monday. He said he could get started on it Tuesday. Today is Friday and the custom converter is already made, mailed, and delivered to my house. (I didn't check for packages yesterday, so it may have arrived sooner).
I'm amazed that anyone still specializes in parts for my car that is almost old enough to drink. More impressive is their customer service and crazy fast turn-around on a custom job. I'm starting to wish I had bought their Y-pipe at the same time. That may be next on the list.
If you need any exhaust parts for your Max, these guys know their soot.
