A/F Gauge Question

I've done the search and couldn't find anything...

Which wire on the o2 sensor do you hook the a/f gauge wire to? I don't want to hack apart my o2 wires, and I know someone has hooked this gauge up before. Also, I'm assuming I splice into the sensor after the cat, correct?

Any responses/tips would be appreciated.

Do you have a strut bar? If so, right under the left side of it there is a harness pointing from left to right. Not the one pointing towards you, the one pointing to the right. If you dont have a FSTB, its on the top left side of the manifold. Tap into the white wire coming out of it. Thats the one I went into and it works perfectly.

I know exactly where you're talking about. I just thought that it would be a more accurate reading if I used the o2 sensor after the cat, since the o2 sensor connetion on the top of the engine actually moniters the rear cylinder bank. I'm assuming that the sensor behind the cat will give a reading of all six cylinders.

I thought the best place for the O2 sensor from an A/F meter was in the Y-pipe, just after the two legs of the Y come together, and just before where the flex section is located. This, of course, would be before the cat. Just drill a hole, weld in a socket, plug & play.

Or something like that...

I think you are thinking of EGT. That's where I put my EGT. For A/F meter you tap into one of the existing O2 sensors. I believe there are three but I am not certain. i think it depended on the year also.

Use either of the 2 precat O2 sensor wires... #50 or #51 on the ECM diagram... I don't have a picture of it. FSM page EC-167

I might be wrong on this, but I think at least some ($$$) A/F gauges come with their own "special" O2 sensor (GReddy/Tomei?) for which you must weld on a new socket. The O2 sensors included with these gauges are fast, broad-band units designed to provide more accurate readings than the stock sensors can. Does that sound right?

As far as a good spot to install the EGT gauge, I suppose you could put it in the same neighborhood with the A/F gauge sensor, but I've heard of folks putting them in a drilled/tapped hole in the front exhaust manifold. I'm not sure which of these locations are better, but I'd guess the y-pipe spot would get the nod...

The way to get the most acurate reading is from an O2 sens that is exposed to exhaust from both banks and not exposed to any catalyst. In other words if you have a Y-pipe a third sens at the end would be good.
