Cruise control malfunction?
Cruise control malfunction?
This randomally started to happen, I can turn the cruise control switch on on my 97 maxima gle, and the green light shows up (on the button) but when I go to set the cruise say at 60mph it doesn't register and It's not working... any thought on that ? Thank you.
Two issues. The set button is not making a connection when depressed or there is junk stuck between the buttons and it is pressing the cancel button as well.
Or your cruise and/or brake light switch is not working correctly. The ones on the brake pedal.

Two ways to fix this, one is to super glue a dime over the hole or get another plastic button from a junk yard. I went to the junk yard and got another button off of another car that was stronger than the cheap plastic one Nissan used, don't remember what kind of car I took it out of, but I tested it in another Maxima at the JY, and it fit, was a little tight, but it has been working for 2 yrs so far. One more thing, unless your bone skinny, it's kinda hard to see it, look up it's location on google. I found a video for you using the dime method even though he used a qtr, so if your rich, use the qtr.
You can do this without taking out the seat if your skinny, but I weigh 200 lbs and was able to do it without taking out the seat, if you take out the seat it's 4 14mm bolts, pretty easy really. good luck and report back if that was the problem, if not then we can go from there to help you. Good luck.
This happens to almost everyone. Get down under the steering wheel and look up on the brake pedal. You will see two plactic buttons in the brake pedal. One button is for the brakes and the other plastic insert button is for cruise control, thats probable missing, in fact look on your floor board and you will probable see it broken lying on the floor.
