95 Cruise control

My cruise will not engage. Light on dash switch will turn on. Press the set button and nothing. In the past I had the brake pedal bump pad break and the cruise light on the cluster blinked. I think I have a bad switch on the wheel or something wrong with the clock spring. How can you test the steering wheel switch?

Did you look and see if you still have the plastic bumper on the brake pedal for the cruise control?

There are 2 ways to test the switch:
1 - replace it
2 - get an ohmmeter and check the wiring continuity between the various pins. Or use the voltmeter to see if you get a voltage signal at the control unit when you press a button. I think checking for voltage would be a little easier.

I checked the manual in the index for cruise but found nothing. Both bumpers are there. I agree testing would be best but I need a guide to see what to test for. Does the cruise have a self diagnosis test? What section is the cruise located in the FSM?

No blinking light this time. In the past I had it blink when the bumper broke on the brake pedal switch.

either cruise ECU is gone,or not getting power. But It could be the Steering wheel switches.

i have found if the cruise ECU gets the message from the switch and the other things are bad...vacuum pump, pedal switch. the light will blink.

This is what the cruise module looks like.

And do you mean light on switch turns on or in cluster?. if the light in the cluster turns on it probably is the pump working but it isn't either making enough vacuum or a hose is bad

Thanks.... When I checked the index in the FSM I checked under C for Cruise and S for Speed. Today I started at the beginning of the EL section. Nissan calls it Automatic Speed Control Device. There is a good write up on how to check. It is dark now and lawn mower is in the garage so I will start the process tomorrow.

I checked all the fuses listed in the FSM and the steering wheel switch tested good. Off to the yard for a new control module. I will also get the relay associated with the cruise for the automatic.
