DS auto non-VLSD CV axle HELP Please
I have replaced the PS CV axle without much trouble. However I cannot seem to get the DS axle all the way into the transaxle - see picture. I have so far avoided BANGING on any part of it...I suspect that the "press fit circular clip" noted on page FA-15 is not properly fit into the side gear. BUT I don't know how I'm actually supposed to resolve that. I would really appreciate some advice. Not going to finish tonight unfortunately... Try to remove the metal ring from the axle (just for the sake of the test), and see if it goes in smoothley.
I had the same thing with mine (APWI axle), and i had to hammer it in. All is well since. |
Clock the passenger side wheel to try and move the second set of splines into place. Use the outer CV as a slide hammer.

A little grease on the clip will help keep it centered and easier to install.
|
It's definitely not fun fighting that clip but with a little love it should go in.
I'd try the axle without it first to make sure there isn't another issue and then have at it! |

anything slippery. Even bacon grease.
lol.. Once I get everything lined up, then I thread the old nut on the end of the shaft to protect the threads, then I hold it in position and give it a tap on the end with my 10lb sledge hammer. |

Whatever is on hand. Usually red n tacky or general purpose lithium for me.
Lithium General Purpose (white) Extreme Pressure Moly-Graph Multi-Purpose (unopened - I think it's black) Hi-Temp Disc Brake (unopened - red?) Which one of these will I adulterate my trans fluid with? I realize it's maybe trivial but it's a choice... I haven't tried to insert the axle again since my last post... |
Petroleum jelly?

Try to turn the axle slightly. The spline needs to line up.
|
Petroleum Jelly FTW! I coated the circumference of the drive shaft inside/underneath the C-clip - this keeps the C-clip centered, which was previously mentioned by someone else. After that the previous amount of force I was applying to insert the axle turned out to be enough. Thanks for the Help / Moral Support BrianA |
