this is what happened

Its gonna be a disputed liability. The other guy came around and smacked me and then blamed me for it. So I didn't argue and just waited for the highway patrol to arrive. We exchanged information and he gave out a bs story, so I'm gonna have to see what insurance can come up with.

I had to drive a Geo Metro home. It was so depressing. It must have been the worst day of my life.

If the car is not fixable, here are the parts I'm going to try to rip out somehow from the total.

Stillen Front Strut Tower Bar
HKS Intake with one free new foam filter
Levoc Auto shift ****
Clear Red 97-99 taillights from custommaxima.com
Clear front signal housings
3 undamaged ADR 18x7.5 wheels with tires if they'll let me rip em off.
H&R springs and tokico shocks (doubt i can get these off)
Stillen cross drilled rotors with axxis pads (doubtful too)

Damn. That sucks, bad. Good luck w/ insurance.

Btw, I carry a cheapo disposable camera in my car just in case something like that happens - this way, you can protect yourself to a greater degree by taking pictures of the accident scene. . .fwiw.

insurance

sorry to hear about your car.

it happened to me in 2001. I totaled the
car I had been driving since '94. I just
finished upgrading with all sort of goodies
and bam... gone...

at least you're ok. there will be another car.

as for insurance, here's the deal. I told my
insurance that I was going to take my upgrades
out. They said I could as long as I put the
original stuff back. Next, tell the insurance
to call the storage about the fact that you're
going to remove some items.

If you're lucky, you can get some of your stuff
back. Unfortunately for me, it was raining like
cats and dogs by the time I got the ok (and I had
half a day to pull stuff in the rain before the insurance
company towed it to their so. cal. yard).

What few things I did get I sold to friends on
the car's forum (which I visited alot). The only
thing I kept was a boost gauge which I hadn't installed
yet. I keep it for the memories...

best of luck,
rob

I think if you replace them with the original items, they'll let you take them off (unless the car is unsalvageable). When my friend's car was wrecked, the insurance company totalled it. We just let the insurance company and the wrecking yard know we were going to take off all his stereo and aftermarket parts, and they let us go at it. Even lent us their air tools to make the job easier. Because we didn't have to replace parts in this case (car was really fubar'd) job went quickly.

With one of my cars, the insurance company was going to salvage it, so I had to replace the factory rims, springs, etc... I did cut off my new SS muffler and leave them with an open exhaust, though... figured the car would have to be towed, so wouldn't have to be driven uncapped...

Best of luck,

Quack2z

Sorry to hear about the accident! Your's was super clean and extremely nice looking. I hope that everything will be able to be worked out alright.

Is there any possible way that if you do get the parts off I could get your steering wheel? And or your passenger side airbag? I'm in desperate need of those!

Insurance Co.'s won't let him strip OEM parts off the car unless he buys the complete totalled vehicle off them. The best he can hope for is an agreement to allow him to strip off the aftermarket parts.

As long as there is no frame/unibody damage you will probablly be able to get it fixed. If not take the money and get yourself another Max. Don't know where your from but I would help you find another car. I live around Pittsburgh PA and have found some pretty good deals on the Maximas around the tristate area. I just bought a 99 Maxima SE automatic (I know, why did I but an Auto? I'm getting old) loaded for $13,500. It has 47,000 miles on it.

If they total it and you get to take your parts off I'd be interested in the rotors and maybe the strut tower bar.

that really sux, i know exactly how it feels, when my car was totaled they said i could take whatever i wanted as long as the oem parts were still there so i took a bunch of stuff and left all the oem crap in the trunk. oh yeah and if ur fstb isn't f-ed up i'll buy it.

If you buy back the car to sell off the parts, I would be interested in your headlights and cornering lights. If you have a sunroof, I'd buy the track it rides on too, but I can't pay a whole lot.

Sorry to hear about the wreck. Don't be so quick to decide if it's a total loss. Insurance companies will try fix that car at all means. My neighbors parked 2001 Max was hit by a drunk driver in a truck. The whole right rear of the car was pushed in to nearly the back pillar. The rear beam axle was pushed forward a good foot with the tire pushing the car up 1.5" feet. It looked like a total loss to me. 1.5 months later, the car was fixed. It looks brand new and drives perfectly. My wife's 98 Altima was rearended by a drunk driver on the highway. She was at a standstill in traffic and he hit her at about 50-55mph with a VW Rabbit. The trunk was none existent, but the cabin was in good shape. None of the doors closed quite right and you could see buckling in the A-pillars and roof. The insurance company said they wanted to literally cut the car in half and weld on another Altima rear (back seat on). I contested because I wanted to be assured that the car was going to have the same crash worthiness as factory. My body shop agreed that there was no way the car would do nearly as good in the same kind of crash. I told the insurance that if I get into a wreck and I'm severely hurt because of their "cheapness", I was coming after them in court. I showed them what the body shop said and the insurance company backed down and totalled the car the next day. I wasn't an *** nor was I rude or threatening, I just told them how I felt.

Sorry to hear about your loss man, so many maximas getting into wrecks .. like someone else on here said, as long as you don't have frame damage and stuff, insurance will try to fix your car by all means. Or they would offer you a settlement, lets say if it's repairable and the damage is $8,000, they will send you a check for that much and then it's upto you whether you wanna use that money to actually repair the car or just keep it and sell the wrecked car for real cheap somewhere and just buy another car. So hopefully you will have a few options. And guys I don't think you should try making deals with him for his parts already, at least let him see what's going on first.
