Need parts list for Rocker Cover Gasket job.
97’ Infiniti I30 base. What parts are usually replaced for a Rocker cover gasket job? I already ordered the gaskets for the covers and upper intake manifold. Do I need to order an EGR gasket and stems for the bolts, as well as spark plug tubes (I assume so)? Throttle body gasket as well? What else should be replaced in there? Thanks.

Gaskets for:
Intake upper to lower Throttle body (if you want to clean it) Idle air control valve (if you want to clean it) EGR tube to intake (there's a second one on the other end of the tube at the valve that's a bit different, you might need to remove the tube to clean it) Valve/rocker cover gaskets Spark plug tubes Grommets PCV valve and grommet Grey RTV Some of the coolant hoses are a pain to remove so maybe buy some bulk hose just in case you need to cut them. Might want to get some vacuum hose too. Also check the hose that connects the two valve covers. I don't know the sizes off the top on my head but I could check. |

It's used in a few small places.

Does the cover under the upper intake manifold take 10 of those sealing washers? Man are those things expensive!

I think if the OP utilizes the FSM (https://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Maxima/1997/), finds his part numbers and then shops those part numbers, his questions can be answered quite effectively.

Replace the small coolant hose under the throttle body while you are there it is a huge PITA to replace simply by itself. Get this preformed hose straight from the dealer.

Spark plug tube seals are usually included with the valve cover gasket, so no need to purchase them separately. The grommets are usually included as well.
You should also replace the rear fuel injectors while you're back there. Because they are a very common failure item, and you do NOT want to have to pull the intake AGAIN! Bosch, Beck/Arnley, or Hitachi injectors are the actual OE injectors reboxed. They do not come with O-rings, so you will need to purchase separately. You need a pack of O-rings for each injector, so if you do the back 3, get 3 packs of O-rings. Beck/Arnley O-rings are the actual OE O-rings. The screws to the injectors will be galled. So you will need a vice grip to go around the screw head and unscrew them. Get a set of screws to replace them. Hillman #4402 |
Our cars have some known issues. Several of those items will require removing the manifold, or will be difficult to work around.
Things like: Failing, leaking fuel injectors . Common now. The egr system. Especially the clogged door handle. Leaking coolant hoses at the throttle body. Throttle body needs cleaning The iacv (idle air control valve ) should be cleaned to prevent future idle issues. The knock sensor can be replaced while the manifold is on, but it's difficult. It's super easy once the manifold is off. You are replacing the valve cover gaskets. To anyone reading this thread later.... Replace them, or you will wish you did. The fuel filter is easier to change if manifold is off. All this might seem like a lot. Doing the entire procedure will result in an engine which will have few issues anytime soon. Or you can skip things. But you will probably need to remove the manifold again. It's not fun at all. |

Look at the link which Really wild stuff just posted.
It will save you a lot of time. Sorry to have brought up the fluster - cluck dilemma Involved with removing the intake manifold. It's removal creates an excellent opportuniy to do preventative maintanance. |
