Help! Good price for a '97 Max??

Hi, i'm new here on this board but i've been browsing for awhile now. I am looking to purchase a Maxima but need your advices if this sounds like a good deal. Its a '97 Maxima SE, 5speed with 42,000 miles and they want $10950 for it. Its in good condition. It has a factory spoiler, but it doesn't have the 16 alloy wheels, leather seats, fog lights, moonroof. Please tell me what you think. Also do the '97 Maxima SE come with standard ABS? Thanks in advance.

didn't ALL SE's come with 16 inch alloy 5 spoke wheels? Maybe the seller took them off, but I would make sure, because if its really an SE, it should have the 16 inch alloys standard..

pricing depends on your region. from what i've seen here in the l.a. area $10950 will get you a stripper 97 SE 5sp with 60-80k miles at a new car dealership's used car lot.

SEs come standard with foglamps. the missing 16" wheels on that car youre looking for maybe switched by the original owner. however when both the foglamps and 16in wheels are missing maybe its not an SE after all? did you check the vin against the info provide in here? (look at the 2nd to the bottom post):

no 97 maximas came standard with ABS. not even the GLE.

someone correct me if i'm wrong... ABS can only be had if the car is equipped minimally with a factory moonroof and the security and convenience package (they were pretty much "bundled" together).

Re: Help! Good price for a '97 Max??

My friend just bought a 97 SE with little under 70k miles on it for $8500.
A damn nice car if I have to say. No scratch whatsoever, Black/Grey interior with all the options included (16 Alloy rims, leather, heated seats, Bose, Sunroof etc.) It drives like a charm.

Thanks for all your replies. Greatly appreciated. I will definitely look into the car and see if it really is an SE. It doesn't sound like it by his description. Thanks again.

Hey - I'm not sure where you live, but up here in the northeast (I live in NH) that would be a decent price for a 97 SE with about 40K. If the car doesn't have foglights or the alloys on it, it's not an SE though. Those things have always come standard with the SE model. One other way for you to check - are the door handles chome? If they're chrome, it's not an SE. SEs have body colored door handles.

Yeah i'm pretty sure its a GXE also but do you guys think its a good price though $10,950 for a '97 GXE with 40,000 miles. They also added the price is also very negotiable. Thanks for all the help.

Very Negotiable means to bend them over and proceed to service them until you complete the sale in your favor.

I bought my 97 GXE here in Madison, WI for....

....US$ 10400 including registration and taxes. The odometer at that time was at 89097. I did the 90000 service interval at Nissan dealer, and it costed US$ 470.

The car does not have leather and BOSE, but it has pretty good sound system (CD player is exactly the same as the BOSE unit, without logo on it), no floor mats and no ABS. However, it does have a moonroof (it's a must for the Max) and...well, nice paint (dark green). Comes with the standard steel wheels w/caps.

Drove the car cross country last summer, from Wisconsin to Colorado, then to Las Vegas via Utah and Arizona, went up to California, then to Washington, then to Montana, Minnesota and back to Wisconsin.

9000 miles and no problems whatsoever (except changing the oil whenever it goest to 3000 miles). Back to Wisconsin, found this informative group about Maxima, and now, at 110k, my Max need some brakes and new suspension (AGX/Race Springs/Brembo/Axxis).

So, in conclusion, your price for 40k Max is pretty good. However, try to take it down to US$ 9500. Then, it would be a sweet deal!

Sorry for the long post, but it was a very good time with my Max when I took the road trip!
