Digital Climate Control

Hello,

How easy/possible is it to replace the manual climate control with a digital one? I have a 95Se, I found the digital climate control for sale for $100. Good price?

It will be more of a hassle then it seems and maybe not worth it. The regular analog type is better anyway.

Thanks. I thought it looked cool and I always wanted one.. but if it's a hassle, then I won't bother.

The analog one is faster to use and easier. Just my opinion because I thought I wanted it but after using mine for a while then driving my moms I30 (which has the digital setup) I decided I did not like it as much at all.

What did you not like about it? I like mine Don't have to keep fiddling with it. It stays at 70F year round!

It is a pain to install it. most people say it's not worth it! You need ambient sensor, in-car sensor, controllers, BCM (for pre 98), harness. Unless you like rewiring your car, it would be quite the pain to install. I don't think it is hard, just time consuming.

Did you suddenly forget where you were posting? He probably doens't give a rat's a$$ about the functionality, he wants the pretty digital display in his car. Same category as windshield washer LEDs. Just your run-of-the-mill rice "upgrade".

Personally, I'd trade my auto climate control for a manual in a heartbeat.

Hey there, no need to start labeling. I enjoy being inside my car, and it's a personal preferance to have a digital climate control over the standard one. Granted there's more funcionality in the manual one, but the comparison of digital climate control to LED washer things is absurd. At least the climate control DOES something

I'd say stick with the manual and tape an old LED watch to it. The thing that sux about the auto is that it will engage your A/C when you may not really want it on, sux power/gas milage...

Not there

Where else could clee have his it? This is fishy, the mods said it was locked out in the other thread, here clee says it's been moved.

So where would clee put it?

That's EXACTLY why there is an 'ECONOMY' button on the system. Works real well too.

It felt like it took longer to get what I wanted done. I mean like when you want a certain setting it seems like you hit 300 buttons to get there instead of just clicking a regular **** over once or twice. It might just take some time to get used to it, it might just be me. But it seems like it makes more of an inconvienice that it is worth.

That's because you are trying to use the Electronic Climate Control like a manual system. In that case, yes a manual system will be easier to use! But if you use the AUTO feature, it will be less steps. Set and forget. Depends what you like I guess. I wouldn't buy a car without it. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Ok, got me there. Now, how do you prevent it from deciding to blow air on the highest setting when you first get into it on a hot day (assuming you don't want it to) I don't have the auto myself but I have been in cars and to me, having air blast in my face is just annoying.

Yeah, there will always be times where you will want to manually override the auto. For instance, sometimes my hands are freezing in the morning but, by default, the heat comes out the windshield and feet outlets. In the case you mentioned, I have not really noticed it being a problem. It's actually working properly when it blows out fast at first. You are getting in a hot car, you're asking it to be 70^ in the cabin so it is trying to get you to 70 as soon as it can (turn on recirc. and blow hard). It will cut down automatically as it approaches your desired temp. But, if you feel it is blowing too hard, you would just do a manual override. In this case, push the fan speed down button.

Personal choices I guess. I think I just like having fast access at changing it since I am constantly changing the temp and amount of air beeing blown.

If you DO plan to retrofit the max, there's a few things you need to be aware of.

For pre 98 (95-97)auto controller models, you can use most of the existing motors and wiring harnesses. BUT you will need to buy a BCM as well as 3 sensors

Using post 98(98-99) auto controller models, you will need to get air mix and mode door motors as well as 4 sensors.

Either way, you would definitely need a wiring diagram from the FSM. Haynes one is not good enough if you are making your own harness.
