Choice of electonic boost controller

Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good electronic boost controller. My Turbo guy recommends Greddy Profec B. is that any good?

Thanks

Go with manual boost controller in the engine bay. With cockpit or electronic boost controller, you are just asking for trouble. Electronic boost controller is expensive and you tend to mess with it more than you should.

But I like control! I don't need to run boost all the time when I am highway driving and it's nice to have the button (like NOS) to switch to higher boost mode. I had thought about the manual one, they're nice and cheap but don't serve what I need.

Boost controller

I too am looking at boost controllers, except for my Supra. My mechanical wizard friend recommends the Greddy profec b, it is easy to use and reliable. The previous poster is correct how ever, manual is probably the best but I am like you,I want to play with it. Also good are the Blitz SBC or the HKS EVC EZ. I will go either with the Greddy or the HKS. Here's a link where you can find them used.

Thanks for the link. I am looking for a new one. Do you know where I might get a good deal for one? (Profec B)

if you buy from SupraStore.com, be forewarned.. search the Z or Supra forum for feedback on them.

I'd go with the GReddy PRofec B or HKS EVC EZ. I am not a fan of fuzzy logic technology in the boost controllers. I prefer to keep it simple.

I don't like the Profec because it requires you to run a vacuum line into the car to sense the amount of boost that you are running. The HKS EVC-EZ, is good and costs about the same. The biggest difference is that it has a smaller module under the hood AND that module has the boost senor on it so you don't have to run any extra vacuum lines inside the car. Basically, IMHO the packaging of the Profec sucks. You can see pics of mine installed here:

It is the black box above the silver box with the 3 vacuum lines running into it. If you want to see pics of the actual controller let me know... I've got some just haven't bothered to copy them to my server yet...

Thanks! This appears to be a good alternative. I don't want to run vacuum lines into the cabin. Is it easy to install yourself? Lastly, any recommendations on where to buy? If you have more pics (not quite so zoomed in I would like to see those.

Thanks again!

It wasn't hard to install at all. I did it in a few hours. The hardest part was accessing the wastegate actuator on the car. (It's buried and you have to remove the belly pan to get to anywhere near it) Anyway... I just went outside and took some pics of it on my car. I took them in 1024x768 this time so they shouldn't be QUITE as big

If you have any questions feel free to ask. As far as where to buy one... I got mine through my mechanic (an RX-7 specialist). I think I paided ~$330 for it... (about two years ago though...)

Thanks for the information. Is the website a permanent one or just temporary? I would like to bookmark it. If it is not permanent I will download the pics.

Thanks again

Well... it's kinda permanent. It's hosted over my DSL connection on my "home" server.... so... while I have no plans of doing anything with it...
