1995 Maxima Issues

Hi, I’ve had this car since 2017 and this car has been amazing to me! This is my first car, (very proud to say I’m still on my first car in 2023!) but I am having some issues… so, about 2 months ago the E Brake Light went on in the dashboard and it did go away after I put the brake up then back down, but once I started my car again… the light was back on! And it’s been on ever since! And NOW! The battery light is on. I do have to say, this car is like a tank! I’ve had 2 accidents in the car in 1 week and she’s still kicking and hanging on strong! I do have other issues with the car but it’s wayyy to expensive right now to get everything she needs done. I’m trying to figure out what could be wrong… I appreciate the help!

Start with the brake fluid reservoir and see how low the level is. It will most likely be low. If low, add the appropriate amount of DOT 3. Also be prepared to do a brake job. Low fluid indicates the brake pads are worn thin and the low fluid used fills in that space.

Lots of threads here on all these things, so do some searches and also look on YouTube for instructional videos. Report back with your findings! Perfect day today. LOL (Rainy Gray)

Brake and battery light together usually means the alternator is failing.

Update!!

Turns out, it’s the alternator and the battery… drove the car to the advanced auto parts near my house and then my car wouldn’t start again… she said R.I.P.! 😩 SO! The guy had to jumpstart her to check the starter and the alternator… after that, the car wouldn’t start again. So he jump started her for me again so I can get home… and while I was at a red light, I felt her starting to fade out so I turned onto the highway to not continue to be in one spot, then she started to jolt when I was (gently) stepping on the gas… I (obviously panicking) pulled over and the lights in my car were FADED!!! Like, BARELY visible! And I need honest opinions! IS IT WORTH THE MONEY TO GET HER FIXED?!?! She has MANY problems… apparently her front axles are ready to snap… her front boots need to be changed… she needs a new passenger side fender and light (due to an accident) she also needs a new tail light. Oh! And the check engine light keeps going on because of the o2 sensor (?)… and my sister is REALLY into cars but is butthurt and bitter because I didn’t take her to check out the car before buying it 🙄 I know… dramatic… AND she’s older… says a lot! So she’s absolutely NO help and keeps telling me to just part it out and get a new car… but I don’t really listen to her (obviously if I still have her) 😅 I just need to know if it’s worth fixing or should I just say goodbye to my first car… and don’t come at me because I’m attached to my car… she has SAVED my life MORE times than I can count! I’m just so proud to say I was on my first car since I started driving, and no one else in my family can! 🤣✊🏽 anyways, thanks for the help/advice

Go buy a Used OEM alternator from the Yard for 50 bucks have it installed and new battery. Ive never been one to part ways over a simple repair. Fix it and roll on.

Second Update

I plan on getting my baby fixed… she’s never done anything wrong to me. She still has a lot of life left in her! I love my first car, and I don’t plan on retiring her anytime soon! Thank you all for the help… I seriously appreciate it! I’m honestly so glad there’s a forum for having an old car… it helps so much! ♥️
