Alright, we got 6" last nite, its time to put them on....
do I want
Dunlop Graspic DS-1's
or
Firestone Winterfires (Don't start the Firestone crap, there's nothing wrong with these lol)

The Winterfires can be studded... I live outside Buffalo... so we have the fun Buffalo Winters.

Michelin Arctic Alpins that were supposed to be the best ... had those on my TBird last winter, they sucked.

Your opinions please... basically I'm looking for cheap w/ good snow traction

Where outside of Buffalo? I am in Rochester and we didn't get ANY snow yet.

I bought a set of the Dunlop Graspic DS-1's from tirerack for about $200. Haven't put them on yet, but I heard good things about them. I gotta figure that they will do A LOT better than my Nitto's in the snow

What was wrong with the Michelin Arctic Alpins? I just ordered at set from Tirerack yesterday. Local dealer said they were quiet and lots of sedans were buying them over the Blizzaks.

I looked at the Dunlop's but the HS-1's got mixed reviews - quick tread wear and poor dry handling. Couldn't find much on the DS-1.s

That WinterFire looks great for loose/packed snow but the tread didn't impress me for dry conditions.

I'm looking for something good for packed snow and dry conditions maybe 25%/75%

My brother had the Yokohamas on his G20, and they were excellent in the snow. They weren't too bad on dry roads either, but definitely worse than summer tires.

You mean these ones right, <img src="http://www.tirerack.com/tires/images/michelin/mi_arctic_alpin.jpg"></A>
I don't know... maybe cuz I was rear wheel drive chunky *** tires would have been my best bet... with FWD u'll probly do fine... although, with FWD I don't think I would have spent that much, I had an Escort wagon and had just 2 cheapie brand snow tires on the front, actuallI need to go see what they were... some off brand, but anyhow, that thing was AWESOME in teh snow... I could do 55 without any slipping or sliding, I drove in a blizzard with up to 1-2 feet of snow at some intersections and stop lights, no problems. Never got stuck in my driveway that drifts BAD in the end.... I don't know if it was the car/weight distrubution or the tires or both... but that was great... makes me wanna go buy like a 91 or 92 scort just for the winter....

hey seth, i just got a set of nokian hakkas, and they are the ****. sorry for the lanuage, but i live in wisconsin, and they are awsome in all type of weather. i am using them as an all season, and they are great. haven't used in the snow yet, but they are awsome in the rain. i can still drive like an *******, even when it is wet out. just thought i would put in my input.

snow tires

I'd recomend the michelins arctic alpin or blizzak(mz-01 romz-02) for highway ( more ice than snow) and blizzak (ws-50) or toyo Observe for more serious snow.

Michelin Alpins are way overrated like all other Michelins.

The Dunlop Graspics are the way to go.
