Help, ATF Flush

Ok...I drained my ATF fluid, flushed it with 5 quarts and put in 7.3 quarts (that's the the guy at kragen said to put in). Now, the dipstick is reading pretty high. Will having too much fluid in there harm the engine in anyway if I have too much? I just found this thread (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....&highlight=atf), but it's too dark and cold outside now to do anything else tonight.

Hey man, why did you listen to the Kragen guy??? It is not good to overfill the transmission by 2 quarts. I would suggest you drain and refill to specs.

I couldn't find the info for the amount of atf fluid the car needed. The maintenance sticky disappeared and I couldn't find it in the Chilton's manual or the owner's manual. I ended going back to Kragen and got a $4 bladder type pump, which I played around with for 30 minutes and ended up getting about a cup of atf fluid out. Then the guy came out and gave me another pump (ended giving it to me for free cuz the cash register was closed), which didn't work at first. So he went back in and got another pump and that worked and he sucked out about a quart. I checked the level and it was too high still. Then a friend of the kragen guy's came over to help and got the 2nd pump working and ended up sucking most of my atf fluid out. When I went to check it, the dipstick had about 2 millimeters on the bottom, way below the level. So I filled in about another quart or a little over that and it's fine now. At least I won't have to deal with this for a while...hopefully.

You'll get between 4 - 4.5 quarts if you simply drain the ATF. Total stock capacity is around 10 quarts IIRC.

The manual says not to overfill so it's good that you got the excess out. Just checking, you are reading the dipstick while the engine is on and the car is on a flat surface right.

Thanks for your help guys. I checked it again today and it was a little low so I added about 3/4 a quart and it is back at a little above the cold minimum. I'll recheck it again when the car is cool.
