Looking to replace the struts on my 99gxe, and whether as a unit, or separate struts and springs, they seem to offer one option. Do the SE,GXE,GLE really all have the same spring rate and height etc.?
I’m looking at going with KYB replacement and reuse stock springs etc., or moog replacement if there’s an issue when I get in there.
TIA
Kevin
Front spring rates differ between transmissions. SE have stiffer rear springs and "tuned" dampers.
Can you swap parts around and it won't be a problem.
Thanks for the info.
It’s my wife’s daily driver, so I’m not looking to do coil overs or anything, but it seems like the options for Springs and struts for these 4th gen’s are getting less and less.
I have had three different sets of aftermarket Strut Assemblies on my 99 SE. All were garbage. Moog, KYB and Monroe.
I went back to original used SE springs, New Koni Orange STR-T Struts and all New OEM Nissan other parts like from the factory.. FINALLY... Like it should be.
I didn't use OEM coil spring insulators. Instead I used thick walled Heat Shrink tubing on each end. Exponentially better and will always stay quiet. See the picture below. I also cut my own 1/8" thick rubber gaskets that go between the body and strut tops.
My cost of assembling all four was approaching $1K before Covid. So glad I did it RIGHT. Hope this helps.
Some good info there, thanks.
Just didn't have a good feel about any of the replacement assemblies either.
Just hate that the number of shock option for the 4th gen seem to have
dropped substantially.
