This thread mostly explains the descrepancy in the stickys regarding the ATF plug(s):

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....threadid=97522

I apologize for not revising the stickys a couple of weeks ago when I discovered this in the 5th gen forum AND on my own 99.

It turns out that the 4th gen automatics have the 19mm black hex plug on the bottom of the pan AND a drain plug on the side of the transmission as well. The confusion arose because my 3rd gen automatic has no such plug on the bottom of the pan and a good 4 quarts do come out of the side drain plug. I assumed the same thing on the 4th gens. That's my mistake.

However, I would like to know for sure if all 4th gen (95 to 99) automatics have this plug. Also, if anyone can confirm if there is a magnet on the end of that plug itself (I doubt there is based on the way the pan is described) and if anyone has a part number for the bolt. Whoever responds with that info will be credited for their efforts.

Since the stickys are offline, I will update it to reflect this change.

The stickys will return in the course of the next week or two, with most likely a new owner with their updates. I'll occasionally continue contributing, but will focus more on the oil analysis stuff and 3rd generation Maximas as my 99 Maxima's days are numbered in the garage.

Probably part # 31377-31X06
I just drain/refilled on Saturday. My 99 has the 19mm black ATF drain plug at the bottom. When I called a local dealership with part number 32103-01A01, they said they didn't have it in stock. They also said they believe the correct part number for my year is 31377-31X06, so I'd guess that is the 19mm plug (but would be more comfortable knowing someone has actually purchased/seen the part and verified that). The stock 19mm did not appear to be magnetic. I plan to do the drain/refill sequence another 3x over a couple of months so I can double check that (magnetic or not) if someone doesn't get to it before I do.

Thanks for the update and the update, Mr. Locke.

My 96 also has the 19mm hex plug and it is not magnetic. I'm sorry I cannot confirm the part # but hopefully my info on the hex plug will be of some assistance.

Yes, it is. Thanks!

I guess all 95 to 99 Maxes have that particular drain plug. Just wanted to confirm that.
