97 Maxima or 92/93 Lexus SC300/400 ?
I will also post this question on the Clublexus.com forum as well...
My last car was a Maxima, and I was very happy with it.
I would like to upgrade to the style, comfort and sportiness of the Lexus SC, but at BEST (with a max of $10K to spend) I will be able to afford a high miles 92 or 93 SC 300 or 400. I would probably prefer an SC300 over the 400 to save on insurance, but I'm not sure if the lower-miled Maxima would be a more sensible choice because I do not anticipate having enough money to spend on any repairs (outside of the normal, expected, repairs and schedule maintenance).
Any honest, relatively unbiased, thoughts on this?
I live in Arizona and the SC's are not easy to come by (which is also why I want one)....
I'm hoping to purchase something this weekend, so please advise.
Thanks

Not too sure on Lexus stuff, but repairs may be quite expensive, but then again I dont know 4 sure, and the Max is a good car too, but I like the Lexus better for looks. As for speed the 400 would be great, but then insurance wont be. Get the Max if you are more toward the budget side of things. I'd still get the max b/c I'm only 21 yrs old and have yet to finish school, so when I'm 25, I'll get the newest version of Lex or Max, b/c I will be financially stable, unlike now, that's b/c I have my 4th gen thouhg

If you could find the SC300 in stick I might buy it instead of a Max, otherwise I think the max looks better.

as someone else has stated, you might want to go with the maxima because it will most likely keep you from the troubles that you might encounter with a 10 year old car...my 97 GLE has given me very little trouble and it looks nice too ...i love the looks of the lexuses, but the insurance for being a sports car plus the maintenance on a high-mileage 10 y/o car will be expensive...my .02

lexi are extremely good
get the lexus sc300 5-speed. rear wheel drive rules unless you live in an area where you get a lot of snow. toyota reliability is very good -- you shouldn't have to worry too much about buying a high mileage car...the sc300 is very nice to look at also...if you shop around and don't buy it off a used car lot you will be able to score a great deal....nissans are sweet, i love my max...but IMHO lexus builds a far better car...(no offense to anyone intended)
good luck!

IMO you should try and find a Max that is well equipped (leather, sunroof, etc.) and pass on the Lexus. The comfort level will be right up there with the SC300. You will be in for years of trouble free driving and if you're into mods, you can make your Max fit your style. Yea if you buy the Lexus it might sound good to say you drive an SC300, but its 10 or 11 years old! Just cuz its a Lexus doesnt mean its all that. Dont underestimate the Max and overestimate the Lexus.

lexus vs. maxima
I have a good friend who lives in Scottsdale who has a maroon lexus sc300 i think, it is an alrite car. However, i don't like it nearly as much as I love my max. It is around a 92-93 like the one you want. I just don't feel like it is a car to be as proud of as a max.
just my 2 cents, but both are high quality mobiles

Both are well made cars. Of course the higher miles the more the likely hood for repair's and maintainance. I'd bet that Lexus parts are more expensive then Nissan parts as well.
All in all it depends on what you're after. I'd drive both then decide. I've been there and done that. I like my 95 SE.

Hm, are Lexus parts really that expensive? It's not like the parts are coming from Germany or anything...just Japan, like Toyota or Nissan.
In my experience Toyota beats Nissan in reliability, build quality, and ride comfort. I know many will disagree, but a lot will agree with me too. Toyota has just always been, GOOD, while Nissan is just getting, better (i.e. build quality).
