I'm on a limited budget, so I wanted to know what would yeild the best power gains. Stillen CAI vs Custom Y-pipe.

Y-Pipe. You can also get a generic cone filter for FAR less than the price of a Stillen one, and get almost the same power.

A cone filter is known as either a Pop Charger or a Hot Air Intake (HAI)

They're all the same thing.

On a budget dont even bother gettign a JWT one, just get a regular cone filter from EBAY or a local shop. You can get them for like 20 bucks at some places.

Does the "regular cone filter" include a velocity stack??? Such as the JWT pop or Stillen intake. The cheap $20 cone filter's are at times made from a sponge type material that will break down quickly and possibly get sucked into your engine. Stick with the JWT Popcharger it's worth the money. Remember you get what you pay for.

PR or Cattman CAI.

Y-pipe will not do much until you have an intake as it wont be able to suck in much more air than it already is. After the intake, I recommend a CAI, the Y-pipe will come to life. Y-pipe is upper RPM power so you wont feel much of a difference in normal driving although there will be one. Both an intake and a y-pipe will make your car louder at WOT.

Again, Kirk hasnt thought before he writes. The Y-pipe will still get you 10hp to the hweels with no other mods. There is not a single better breathing enhancment for the Maxima.

I challenge you to name one that adds more power by itself (hp per dollar)

I did the intake first, really felt the gains from that.

Next was the Stillen Y and RT cat at the same time. Didnt really feel much power gain except top end and even then I wasnt impressed. It might be different for you 5-speed owners, but my GLE didnt really make a big difference.

There is a better breathing enhancement for the Maxima, its called a Supercharger. Now for the money if the Y actually does net 10 to the ground then for the price there isnt a better one. I on the other hand like the 7hp to the ground of my CAI better than the combo of the Y and cat.

I did think before writing. I write from personal experience with mods, but why would I expect you, of all people, to care?

You guys got it all wrong, a nice TYPE R sticker will up power by at least 201HP, now that's all for under $20!

Does that include all the guages and window switch and such? What brand is that? I might have to look into it since you say its $1000 cheaper than anywhere else I've seen. You've got me excited now

Thanks. I only post which mod to buy if I've used one of the ones they are asking about. True, I do get into flaming wars from time to time, but hey - its the internet, why not?

no problem; I give props when they're due. about the $500 kit: one of the guys at our old orchard meet got the bare, bare, bare NOS kit for that and installed it himself in a few hours. he has an auto so he didn't get any guages (it's only a 50 shot).

Thats cool, but I'd have to do the full guages and such if I were to run it. Oh well, back to the drawing board

if you're going to nitpick then i'll be right there with you:

ben said: "I challenge you to name one that adds more power by itself (hp per dollar"

First off, the Y-pipe doesn't "add" power, it frees it up.

Second, nowhere did he say "on an NA car" or "constantly" or anything like that.
