shift ****

Someone broke the plastic piece surrounding the leather shift boot trying to get the radio out in my car. I was trying to replace it and I needed to take off my shift **** and it is tight as hell. I turned it and the leather around the **** slipped and turned and ripped and the **** didn't budge. I can't get it off. Can anyone help? Does it just unscrew...counterclockwise right? Also the dealer says the **** will be 70 dollars. Is there a good aftermarket **** or does anyone have their old original one to sell. Thanks.

Well, when I went to take the shift **** off, it wouldn't budge either. I was replacing it and didn't care what happened to it so I was able to unscrew it (right tighty...lefty loosey). I had to use channel locks though because the screws had super glue on them from the factory I guess. Anyway, I put a new Momo on. It was aroun 50 or 60 bucks I think. And the aftermarket one looks MUCH better and "cleaner" than the original.

Sorry to hear that someone was trying to take your radio. Yes, it should unscrew counter-clockwise. Look into aftermarket shift ***** but if you really want a stock one I will sell you my old one real cheap. It is in perfect condition other than the fact that the shift patern is worn down pretty good.

I bought mine through a local import shop. Not a cheap way of doing it. But they had a good choice of Momo's in stock to choose from. There are alot cheaper places to get nice ***** though. Check the "Links" portion of Maxima.org

Personally I like the factory shift ****, but it is on there pretty tight. They're machine tightened at the factory

It is on there kinda tight but once you move it like 1/4 of an inch then your set from there. It is held on by a tough glue but once that loses the seal on it is comes off very easy.

C - clamp

took my friend's shift **** off his max. use a rubber pad to get the best grip but a rag will suffice, take a c-clamp and tighten that sucker down on the head of the ****. turn counterclockwise and she'll unthread nice and pretty. no marks, scratches, or blemishes. and you won't jerk the heck out of your hands. sweet.
