V2 3.33" or smaller pulley mod - grinding location?

Those of you who have done this on the V2...

Where exactly do you need to grind? Pulley? Bracket? S/C?
Pictures would help... I want to do this as I install it. I don't want to remove the S/C and bracket twice.

Thanks!

BTW - anyword on the metal idler pulleys?

I had my blower shimmed, not the pulley ground. But if you want to grind the pulley, grind it on the side that mounts to the blower. I have pictures of my shims if you'd like. Just make sure you do it. I saw a car where the pulley wasn't ground down, and he only had 5 ribs of the belt on the pulley. the belt just hung over the side a little, and he told me that he went through belts pretty frequently. This was with a 3.33 pulley BTW.

My blower does precisly that, I have only 5 ribs on the pulley right now. I just bought a 3.48 I'm going to install this weekend. In doing so i'll try shimming the charger out a little, grinding that pulley sounds like it would work, but i dunno, warranty...balancing, seems something i wouldn't want to challenge with vortech.

The shop didn't feel comfortable with grinding the pulley down. They were afraid of not grinding it perfectly. At least with the spacers, everything is still alligned. But nobody I've talked to has shimmed the SC like my shop did. But apparently, this is what Stillen recommends. The shop called Stillen, and Stillen told them to shim the blower on the mounting plate to get it alligned.

So basically what you are saying is that Stillen machined down the included 3.6" pulley for the kits and any replacement one needs to be 'adjusted'. We are talking about the V2s only, right?

Do you know HOW MUCH needs to be machined off the Pulley? i.e. length of shims used?

Pics would be great Shadow, if you have them.

Thanks!

I believe Chung is asking about the belt touching the bracket on the rib side, not the alignment (left/right). If you go with a small enough pulley, the belt (side with ribs) will rub the bracket on one area.

Take a look at the belt right after the SC pulley, Shadow. Do you remember the sticker on the SC that stated something like if you break this seal, then blah blah blah...? The bracket that goes there needs to be shaved.

Yeah, if that's the part he's talking about, then yes, the bracket you're describing does need to be ground down.

I just thought he meant the alignment since he mentioned grinding the pulley down, and as far as I know, everyone who ground the pulley down did so for alignment reasons.

Is this problem just on the v2's or is it on the v1's as well, because I'm on the 3.125 on the v1 and I have never had this problem, but someone just posted that they are having alignment problems with their v1.

I checked my pulley location and didn't see anywhere that having a smaller pulley could rub. I have the stock 3.6" pulley on a V2.

:o)

I had no idea anything needed to be shaved/grinded if you get a smaller pulley. 2 years on the .org and I have never heard this?! Why am I always the last to know?

That's how I feel about this. I've never heard about this until recently.

Supposedly it's the area a few inches below the S/C pulley facing the front of the car that needs to be ground down... I'll need to do this in a month or so hopefully when the J&S arrives and I feel like taking down the S/C assembly... fun...
