why the difference in tint prices?

hey guys, i called a few places today for an estimate on tinting my 97 GLE with 35% tint all around, and the two main places that suited me was one with 35% charcoal tint with lifetime warranty at $159; and one with a choice of 4 different colors and lifetime warranty at $195...now, i'm gonna go with the black (charcoal) tint anyway, so i was just wondering, what could cause such a big difference in the price?...are there different techniques that would make one shop better over another?...i'm lookin towards gettin it done tomorrow so any of your help is greatly appreciated...thanks

That price seems a bit high for tint in the 30% range. I paid 150 for 15%. The lower the percent the more money. But definatly get charcoal.

Pics? I want to get tints done I am just not sure what color to get. Someone told me 35% slightly reflective not the full on mirror stuff.

The only local place that does it said "oh we dont do tints now I mean who turns down business? Essentially for the next week they will probably have zero work to do since its a college town and spring break around here. Anyway thats my little rant I'll never figure out these small shops.

Some tints are just dyed film and will fade while some tints are made with metals and can resist fading. This is a good example of why some tints are more expensive. Also, some shops just charge more for labor.

ya some tint films can cost 2-3 times as much and then it's all on how much time they spend, i got my first max tinted for 100 bucks and it was shabby, on my new car i had it done at the dealer, it was <gasp> $500 </gasp> but it is by FAR the best job i've ever seen and most of my friends agree. it doesn't even look like the tint ends. it's within .5mm of the edge and no even one teeny bubble, absolulty AWESOME.

Depends on quality and type of tint. You can spend $150 on the cheap stuff that fades after a year like something you'd buy from the store, and has a 2 year warranty. Or you can get the really good tint with the higher reflective ratio, is somewhat metallic based, and has a lifetime warranty without much (if any) fase for #300.

so which one do you guys think i should go with? i want this done right the first time and never have to worry about it again...i don't want any fading or anything...so the 159 with lifetime warranty, or the 195 with lifetime?...thanks..both shops are respectable, however i got a recommendation for the 195 from a body shop where i've gone too for a few years...thanks again

I'm assuming since they both offer lifetime warranties they are probably using similar tint (metallic based). You should pick whoever is gonna give you the best installation and customer service. Think about the future and if you did have to come back for any reason to claim warranty work which one of the installers would be better.
