CAI short ram (5 speed)

I've had a CAI for a while. After reading some posts (Cumalot, Hype, Etc.), I decided to try the CAI short ram style myself.

These findings are all according to my butt and NOT track tested.

1.) Power feels more linear
2.) Car feels faster but less quick
3.) Sound isn't as engaging

I think that this is the better setup for me. I do most of my driving in the city and haven't felt the lag other people, mainly automagics, talk about. Plus, with the full CAI I felt my car was running out of breath when I was on the freeway (No! Bad, Bad Maxima!). I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but my car now feels more responsive and more willing to rev to redline. For us, I'm starting to believe that the quantity of air is more important than the quality of air. Anyway, I just found a dyno place that gives 3 runs for $100 so I'll check it out; At least more definatively.

I'm about to do the same thing myself. Convert my CAI to the Hybrid. Did you get the velocity stack in your short ram setup?? That'll help to preserve the quantity and quality of the air coming in.

It's that chrome shaped dish with a hole in the middle. It goes between the filter and the MAF. It doesn't increase the air going in, but it helps straighten and speed up the airflow as it goes thru the MAF and enters the TB. Lookup the Jim Wolf Technologie's POP charger, or Stillen intake. They have it.

It's called a venturi, but some people call 'em velocity stacks.

Yeah, fancy "marketing" name. I don't know if they sell separately, though

if you're apprehensive, disconnect when it rains!

Re: CAI short ram (5 speed)

I totally agree "power seems more linear" I have a very similar set up I have JWT with velocity stack and a atraight hose from throttle body. Below is my post.......

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ight=resonator

Perhaps the sound was more engaging before because the intake echoed throught the fender wall of your car.

I am very happy with the set up.
