Which would you pick?

I cant pick wich car to go for:

1. 98 SE 5spd, Sterling Mist, Black Leather, every option in the book, including side airbags with 41k miles for $15000

or
2. 97 SE 5spd,Dark Evergreen, baige cloth interior, ABS, Sunroof with 75k miles for $8800.

If i get the first i wont be able to do any mods, but if i get the second i can hook some stuff up right away. i havent looked at either yet but my father looked at the 97 and said it was in good shape. So whick would you go for.

you're lucky

Personally, I just have to say you're lucky for finding a 2 five speeds.

However, i would go with the 97 green. Think of this. For the $6,200 that you save, you only have 30,000 more miles which isn't bad. Even if you don't like the color that much. You could put on, rims, get a body kit, tint your windows, get new tail lights, clear corners, leather interior if you wanted, etc. AND STILL HAVE $2,000 left for performance mods.

The most fun you will have with a max is making it personalized, making the interior and exterior better, and being able to be faster than other cars and looking good doing it.

Sure a camaro is fast, but its fugly, and it's not reasonable to drive around every day to *ahem* get groceries.

So, if I were you, i would really get the 97, much much more fun.

just my opinion

You shouldnt even consider the 98, that price is a rip off in todays competitive world. Get the 97, the mileage isnt bad at all, and you can turn around and get aftermarket leather for $600 and install it for another $200 and your set.

I would go with the black leather interior, plus its easy to keep clean. The beige gets dirty quickly.

go with the 97, put aftermarket leather, a new stereo setup that you like, nice rims, and a whole bunch of other stuff to set you apart from the rest of the maximas out there.

Im in the market for a maxima and I was curious as to whether or not the aftermarket leather is as good as stock leather (besides the fact that its new) My dad says that aftermarket leather is never the same...true???

if I were you, I would get the 97, add a supercharger and exhaust, a smaller pulley, MAYBE new rims, and would be happy with that. If I wasn't happy, I would add a 75 shot of nitrous or the leather. OH! Also the tint. gotta have that!....but that's only $150...I haven't calculated all this but the next thing would be suspension.

i forgot the website, but i think it was www.customleather.com where you could go and buy custom leather for the maxima, two-tone, and even have a logo stitched into the seats, and they were as good, if not better than factory...i'm not sure because i don't have any aftermarket leather, but this is from what i've read

$15000 for a 98 5 speed max? I found a better deal for you...2001 I-4 Accord coupe fully loaded for 27k sticker. That day i was at the Honda dealer, don't ask me why i was there , i actually saw people looking at it, along with the 27k sticker base Prelude. Go for the 97 Max...8800 is cheap.

I have a 99 SE-L leather, every option in the book. My lease is up in 3 months, the buy out is only $14,000 and it's only got just about 40K on it.

$15,000 for the 98 is a bit steep. Offer him 13,000, settle for 13,500 and take the 98. Sterling Mist and Black Leather might look something like this Maxima.

all i've got to say is that i will never buy a car with a beige interior...i have the EXACT CAR as the 97 (cept that its an automagic)...

i really want to put in interior stuff like brushed aluminum or carbon fiber and it just doesn't go with the beige AT ALL...i wish i held out for a black or blue with charcoal when i bought it

plus if puts in custom leather seats...its got to be beige cause the entire inside of the car is beige...you have to rip up the moldings, headliner, carpet...etc

aftermarket leather is better than stock leather because you get 100% leather all around.

the guy wont go lower than $15000, if he would be willing to goto $13500 i would take it, but he wont cause he can find someone else to take it for $15000

Is this a dealer? He said,"he can find someone else to take it for $15000", huh? If that's true then it's sold. He's probably BS'ing you.
I have a Evergreen 97 with tan leather. The leather looks great with a green exterior, but the leather quality isn't great. I would look at aftermarket leather first if I were going to add it.
I like both the 97 and 98 color combos. Yes, run a carfax before buying.

1/2 the mileage=Half the trouble?!? HAHA who gave u that notion? Ive seen cars with 25k miles with trannys that slip, gaskets that leak. Wear and tear on teh car is all dependent on how the car was DRIVEN. I have a friend that is a dealer at a Dodge dealership. FOr fun, some of the guys take out brand new Stratus R/T five speeds with 0 miles on them..and go do crazy stuff like rev up to redline and dump the clutch...i feel bad for the person thats gonna buy the car.
