Y pipe noise.

Yesterday I got my WSP Y pipe installed at a muffler/brakes shop. I've noticed that upon acceleration and sometimes during idle and park the pipe rattles and makes a noise almost as if it is loose. Is this typical and the pipe just needs to be broken in? Or did the shop do something wrong and I need to take it back? Anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

that is not normal. you are going to have to take it back. Something is not secure. maybe not on one of the hangers

Okay. I will probably take it back tomorrow and have them look at it. They had better not charge me anything since it's their f*** up.

wsp has excellent quality in their products, plus dallas is a real nice guy. call him tomorrow and explain the problem. then take it to the shop for the adjustments. make sure you talk to him. could be a defect. has been known to happen

Not likely a standard item...just check out all the mounting bolts and make certain teh depth of the y-pipe does not force the b pipe too far down into the small cross brace just in back of the resonator...best of luck...BTW, if you hear paper flapping it means your gaskets are not tight in back...I learned that one.

Is the paper flapping actually paper or is it just a paper sound?

On my Cattman y-pipe it was rattling and shaking as well. I put washers under the small and larger crossbars. This gave an extra like 3/4" gap underneath the pipe.. All is good since then. No problems..

Fixed!! I went back to the shop tonight and told them what the problem was, and they messed with it and said it was fixed, but when I got in, it still made the noise...so a guy who's an import freak at the shop listened to the sound it made when I shifted gears, took it up on the lift, and fixed it. Now it runs perfectly with no noise.
Y pipe rules!
