Anyone have problems after filing nub down for your parking bulb?

I filed down the higher nub on the 1157 dual filament bulb and turned it into the socket backwards to make it brighter... It was really bright, matched the headlights well. About a week ago, the right parking light stopped working, I figured the bulb needed to be replaced, although it's weird since I only had it on for 2 months or so. I took out the bulb yesturday and it was melted at the top. Yes, the BULB was melted, the glass was really dim at the top and it had a buldge. However, the filaments in the bulb looked okay (?) I took out the other one which was still working and it had the same thing only not as bad. Anyone have any problems like this?

I'm also running a 10 on the parking light fuse. Could that have caused it to turn like that?

Just asking because these bulbs aren't exactly cheap at like 10-15$ a piece.

wow, what brand of bulb is that? I've had PolarG's and APC 1157's, all without the top nub, and I haven't had a problem like that yet..

Strange! We did this mod at the same time, mine work fine w/o any plms. Perhaps it is because mine are polarg hyper white bulbs?

What happened to RICOiz704?

Maybe you have the higher wattage bulbs than stock that couldn't handle the constant high temp.? I guess consider yourself lucky that it was the bulb and not the lense or housing that melted. Aside from all that one other thing is; since the filaments looked all right maybe the bulb was just loose in the socket? You did remove one of the ***** that helps hold it in place. Also, NO, it isn't your fuse that caused the problem and DON'T replace it w/ a higher one. Good luck w/ your dilemma.

The brand in Xenon Blues 12V 35/5W
I am looking at the bulb now and it kind of looks like the filament touched the glass but i am not sure.. maybe that caused it?

i'll do it again when i get new lights in we'll see how it goes.

i bought $7 dollar hyperwhites.. kinda cheap quality in my opinion, one blow out, and the bulb looked fine (no melting) ... but i've also noticed that the corner lense gets pretty hot.. well so good so far

I don't think the factory bulbs are rated at 35 watts. I think they are more like 27/8 or something like that. I realize you want brighter lights, but you may need the lower wattage rating. Good luck.

Hmm, what was weird was that my PIAA Super Whites (head lights) also have a bulge on it after I`ve used them for about two years. Anyone know the cause of the problem, it is exactally as NYCe MaXiMa described about his 1157s.

parking bulbs

i also filed down the **** on the bulbs. a few days later it blew the parking light fuse. its a quick way for this mod. i think the way to go is too solder the wires behind the socket. when you file down the *** i dont think the bulb sits in there well, which is why i think it blew the fuse. i havent had front parking lights for weeks. I got to get a solder iron and get this mod done.
