Reducing weight of Maxima.. need suggestions
Hmmmm, that is a very broad question man. Give it some Jenny Craig....haha jk. But since you asked, if you plan on not having anyone sit on the backseat anytime soon, you can remove those. Those you might lose about 50 to 60 pounds, from what i felt when i carried them out. Your spare tire, if you don't mind walking, if you get a flat. The carpenting in the trunk, your hood liner. Some of the things I listed, can be easily put back in like your back seat and your spare tire. But carpeting and stuff might be hard, if you think about it for a sec. There is lots of things you can remove from your car to lose weight. If you don't care a damn thing in your interior, just gut the entire thing. But whatever floats your boat. Payce
i have asked this question before
be prepared to get made fun of and be the butt of many jokes. theres really not a whole lot you can do and keep your car as a daily driver. i thought it was a valid question too, but maybe people like you better and will be nicer.
spare tire
Personally, i think donuts are junk. If you have a cell phone and don't drive farther than 30 minutes from home every day, i would advise takin out the donut. You can save weight and hide some illegal contraband back there, that weighs less. If you ever get a flat, you can always just call someone. In my short 3 years of driving I haven't ever got a flat while driving a variety of vehicles, of different types. Maybe it happens more other places, but I think it's worth takin a chance once in 3 years.
If you go on a trip, through the rubber covered donut (w/ no sprinkles or glaze) back in the trunk.

Some people contend that you shouldn't go carbon b/c the OEM hood is designed to bend & absorb crash damage, but if you're performance-minded, I say go for it. The front's a great area to reduce weight. It's also about weight re-distribution, too. From a handling standpoint, relocating the battery to the trunk is worth considering, especially if you autocross or race (track, not drag).
.org member "sinewave" did this in his 4th Gen. Nice results.
Otherwise, I agree with everything that's been said here. It comes down to whether you want a "daily driver" or a "race prepared" car.
(Unfortunately, there's not a lot of middle ground to work with in ye olde Max).

It seems that the Max is just about as light as it can be unless you get rid of some type of system, i.e. the A/C, fog lights.
You can remove the underhood material, not much there, there is a heavy sheet of metal behind the rear seats, replace with alloy. The rear doors can be gutted, get a pin release for the window, it will rattle.
Under the steering wheel there is a knee protector, replace with shaped aluminum, if you are good with a hammer.
All the tinkering and fiddling that I have mentioned and the stuff that others have mentioned will only reduce the weight enough to offset the added weight of all the extras you add.
As the previous person said, it is probably best as a daily driver or a race car, there seem to be no middle ground.
Talk to papasmurf. This guy has probably the most gutted Max lol
No A/C
gutted rear deck
small wheels
no air bags
umm, i dont know what else, i'm sure he's missing quite a bit of other things too.

get carbon fiber hood, sarona bumpers, remove your speakers, get lighter tires and rims, get rid of front two seats and replace them with buckets, get rid of all your trunk lining and get new fenders

don't have a passenger in the car when you race. you can feel the difference with that.

Papasmurf has:
No A/C (condenser, piping, catch can)
No remnants of the factory airbox
No underhood liner
Light weight battery relocated to the trunk
Various hoses and vacuum lines cut.
No stereo, (speakers, head unit). The theives did that for him
No front speaker covers or rear deck. The theives did that too.
Completely gutted trunk. No trunk support rods as well.
Light weight wheels. 16lbs. each without tires.
When he ran his 14.0, he had no passenger seat or rear seat in the car.

I just want to inform you guys if you go to a acctually drag event with no passenger seat and no carpet in front of the front seats you are qualified for the pro FWD class believe me at an NIRA event I had a turbo cabriolet with no dash, pass.seat, carpet and they made me run against 10-11 sec. cars
.
.
If you take two identical Learjets, one white and one any other color the white one will always win because it is lighter because it doesn't have as much paint pigment in the paint.

There are many things to do. Now how much faster will you be? Who knows. The general guideline is that every 100lbs you take off you car you are .1 faster down the 1/4 mile. I do believe this statement, just only to a point. I have stripped my Maxima numerous times & havent ran anything faster then when i had everything in my car.
I personally wouldnt remove all the safety beems incase you ever crash on the track or the street. Unless this is goping to be a drag car, dont do it. Some other things would be to remove the whole A/C system, Use coilovers rather then Springs, CF hood, remove the seats (F&R) and replace the driver w/ a Kevlar racing seat (10lbs each), Remove all interior & trunk lining, lighter rims, etc. Everyone wil ahve different ideas but best of luck.
