clear coat sratches
When I purchased my used max, they attempted to buff down the car.
HOwever, when I took delivery, I noticed massive kinda cloudy swirl marks on the top of the trunk, as if they scrathed the clear coat or something.
It is kinda grey looking now. I tried to rebuff it but it did not work..What are my options?

I had something with my car on the trunk and side...like someone took sanpaper and firmly pressed and swirled it. But the wetsanding took care off that. Just make sure you keep taht area polished and waxed thereafter.

Thanks That is what I thought. I love your rear...your Max that is...I just got inspired to shave my emblems and clear my tails next week.

I had the same problem and a friend of mine gave me a few suggestions that worked really well.
1. Use 2000 grit 3M Wet/Dry sandpaper and wet sand the swirl mark using LOTS of water. Use VERY light pressure and be patient. I spent about 1-2 min very, very lightly sanding my swirl mark (about 4 inches in diameter).
2. Dry the area. Then use 3M Microfinishing Rubbing Compound. You can use a buffer but I just used a clean, soft terry cloth and buffed the spot by hand. Use light/medium pressure at first, then gradually apply less and less pressure.
3. The spot should now look pretty good. I finished it off with some 3M Polish and the swirl mark is completely gone and my paint is as smooth as glass. My friend swore by 3M products and now, so do I.
IF the swirl mark is just that, a swirl mark and NOT worn completely to the metal, the steps above should work. I followed my friend's advice and I honestly can't tell where the original swirl spot was.
Good Luck.

These all sound like good tips for scratches on clearcoat.
I might mention that Mequiar's now sells a product called Scratch-X, a fine Scratch and Swirl Remover.
It comes in a 7 Ounce black tube with a big red "X" on it.
It advertises as Clear Coat Safe;
Safely removes:
Light Sratches and Swirls
Oxidation and Blemishes
Bonded Contaminants
It says if Scratch-X cannot remove a scratch or blemish, only machine applied professional formulas can do the job.
I have purchased this tube, but not tried it yet.
Anybody have anything good or bad to say about this product?
Thanks,
White96MaxSE
