Y-pipe and Emissions

Some people were worried about having a Y-pipe with Emissions, well here are the results from my PA state inspection.

1997 Maxima SE, Auto

With stock Y-pipe (last year)
CO %: Limit=0.44 Reading=0.01
HC ppm: Limit=78 Reading=15
NO ppm: Limit=625 Reading=180

With Cattman Y-pipe (this year)
CO %: Limit=0.44 Reading=0.04
HC ppm: Limit=78 Reading=21
NO ppm: Limit=625 Reading=344

So the NO almost doubled, but I'm not sure if all of that can be counted from the aftermarket Y-pipe. But as you can see everything is still well within the range.

Nitrogen Oxides

It says NO on the sheet, but it's actually NOx (NO-NO2)

ppm: Parts per million, it's the unit of measure for those particles. And no, I didn't warm it up. I dropped the car off the night before and the place did the emissions and inspection the next day. I'm not sure if they let it warm up or not.

To SonGouko: I don't have a stillen so I can't say, I can only give info from my Y-pipe. But since the principles of the aftermarket Y-pipes are the same (remove the precats), I would say that most likely the results would be similar.

Also, I'm not sure what the emissions standards (if any) are for other states and counties.

PS- I'm fed spec not cali.

just make sure your car is warmed up before you take the test, and make sure you are the only one getting smogged so they dont let your car cool off

thezcarguy just passed with his Warpspeed y-pipe last week or so, he's Cali Spec
