I drive stock ones at work at least once a week, they are very slow in comparison. . . I don't know what a ram air intake will do for it, but you should easily taken him.

Do you mean the TRANS-AM Ram Air? That $hit is FAST! Was going 90 on the freeway the other day. I look over, it was a Trans Am Ram Air, I was looking at his car then i guess the guy thought i wanted to race. He downshifted and took off BAD.

My maxima just recently got hit by a stupid driver who made a U-turn right into me. My car is now in the shop and I now have a Grand Am as a rental car. You will have no problem taking it out. The maxima is faster in my opinion, off the line and at higher speeds, I miss my max... Can't wait to get it back.

Be glad that you got a Grand Am especially if insurance is paying for it. . . I work for a rental car agency and they are one of the better cars to drive, although very cheesy on the interior. You could have got a Cavilier (sp?) or something worse. Most rental replacements are either Neon, Corollas, Cavs/Sunfires, or Escorts (Yes they are still avail as fleet cars).

Yup your right, I was givin a Corola at first but then after they had a grand am come in, and they gave me that. The reason I didn't get a neon etc.. is that my insurance plan provides an equal class car. I was also offered a Bonniville and a Ford Escape.

If it's Enterprise try and get a Grand Prix. . . I think most of them have some. A little better than the Grand Am, at least more space. I know the local ones around here have recieved some 2002 Camrys in the past couple weeks, and while they are only 4 cyl, they are probably the nicest thing you could get that is comparable, although the Maxima in some areas is considered Premium so technically you could get an Infiniti or Cadillac.

Oh and while the Corolla is small, it is great for e-brake pulls, very well balanced. Not that I know from personal experience.

the ram air isnt going to do much until you reach higher speeds, IMHO I think the grand am's with it was just a marketing ploy to get people to pay extra for it and does hardly anything for the car. So I say go for it.

Let's see...

Both cars weigh approx 3100lbs.

The Grand Ma "cram air" V6 puts out 175hp with no mods.

I believe your 99 Maxima SE has 205hp - without even a K&N drop-in fliter.

No contest.

I always figured those GM engines were notorious for major low-end pull.

watch out, I raced one from a dead one night and he pulled til we were about 75mph, then i realed him in. But all the other 7 or 8 GAGT's i've raced, I've taken them w/ no prob, even when I was stock. The guy that pulled on me musta had somthin, proly something stealthy, like an enhanced TPS or somthing, cuz I didnt hear any exhaust/intake, but my knock sensor was prolly being a dikkhead too, so who knows y he pulled on me. it was funny, b/c right after I ran him, I raced an IS300 auto and pulled nicely on it.....GAGT's have the same tq #'s as us too (205) they got more low end than a Max, but a max's hi end will devastate, not that a 4th gen has killer hi end or anything, but it is more superior to the GA's, in fact they(GA's) hit their peak hp @ 4800rpms.

Theres also a guy runnin 15.2's in a stock GA SE on their forums. And the norm GAGT with basic mods runs low mid-low 15's. So run em and lets see. My $$$ goes on the Max.

Wow, how'd you know my rental is from Enterprise? Yup, they said they have a grand prix and a camry there, however they said that they were rented out at the time. The funny thing is that they told me if I am not satisfied with the Grand-Am I can always bring it back and they will give me another car.

I work for the company and I think we are the only one that actually carries a variety of makes and models. . . We also carry 70% of the replacement market so it is a pretty good guess it would be Enterprise.

And about the other car, did they say anything about an added fee? They may say somethig to the effect of "for $5 extra you could get. . . " You are already given then insurance rate, so find out what the max is your insurance will pay, and then let me know and I'll tell you what the largest size car you should get is. Basically it goes like this: $50/day you get your choice of anything you want, $40 almost anything except large SUVs, $30 up to full size, $25 Compact.

You got the pregnant rollerskate. . . that would be anything less than $25/day. . .

I think my limit from the insurance is $35/day. I'm with State Farm. Enterprise told me that State Farm would pay up to $900 for my rental car. The only reason why they limit it to $35/day is so that I would be able to have a rental for a longer time. Not sure if what I was told is correct though.

I wouldnt talk so soon

they have 175hp with the ram air... and low end torque from the 3.4 is sweet... plus they have traction control... and GM automatics shift better and are worlds ahead of Nissans... I'd say it would be very close
I've seen Magazines quote 0-60 times for G/A GTs at 7.5 or 7.7 and 1/4s at 15.2
thats faster than they quote for our Maxis and the 1/4th is spot on with what some pretty fast autos get

good luck... even if you lose you still have a better car

next to me and we were at a redlight...i had to get in front
of him real quick cus the lane was ending and i guess he didn't
want to let me over so he guns it when the light turns
green but i got a car length in front of him right away...but only barely enough to get in front of him...btw i'm auto and i'm
pretty sure he was auto too

all GTs are auto the 3.4L V6 isnt available with a 5spd from what I know, and GM makes some damn good automatics guess who makes the 5spd autos for BMW? GM they make em in a factory in France
GM does make good auto trannies, Jag used to use them, they invented the whole thing anyways

That sounds correct from what I know. . . Since I basically wash cars, I pick things up as I go. I could ask my managers if you want, but it sounds like they are charging them less than the $35/day in order to get you an extention if you need it. . . Although typically the coverage is extened for 30 days of rent. . . So if it looks like it will be longer than 30 days they may be doing you a favor.

I raced one last week.

We went off the light, there was a merge ahead .. He stomped it first, and I was late cause I didn't think he wanted to race, he immediately pulled a car on me.

I stomped it, squealed the tires, immediately got half a car back when traction hit. Reeled him to his front doors, car shifted to second, tires chirped. He looked over cause of it hehehehehe. Ran 2nd till the end of second gear, and pulled on him until he was at my doors. I didn't get far enough ahead to merge in ahead of him, but I still was faster than him
